Exiting Lockdown

Happy Tuesday, my lovelies!!

We’re in stage 2 of our lockdown exit strategy.

Each island household is referred to as a bubble - is that the same where you are?
As of last weekend we can have bubble buddies, mixing with another household bubble.
It’s a step in the right direction.
Stage 1 a couple of weeks ago was allowing certain businesses to open, such as construction and building suppliers.  An application needs to be made to our government to prove that social distancing can be maintained in the workplace and then, if successful, the firm is registered to commence business.
There is slightly more traffic on the roads as a result.

I’ve loved not using the car.   Our groceries and medication are delivered as we’re both over 70.  We have quiet lanes for walks in the immediate neighbourhood and we’re a short walk away from lovely beaches so daily walks have been exclusively on foot and highly enjoyable.

We’ve only recently taken a car to an exercise spot.  These pics are from the second time we ventured further than our hood, though nowhere is far in Guernsey.  It was the second time I’d been out in a car in about ten weeks and it felt like liberation, like a holiday.  it uplifted my spirits.  But it felt like an isolated outing, a treat, and not something I feel we should do regularly in our new norm, which I happen to like in certain respects.  A pared down life is a great reset.

Anyway the car needed a good run so we chose here, the other end of the island.  And there’s #nofilterneeded at Jerbourg Point, Guernsey!

I hope these pics uplifts your day as much as it did mine.

How are you doing in lockdown?

A la perchoine,

  1. You are ahead of us, Mary. We find out what we have in store on Sunday...

It's interesting what you say about the 'pared down' life. I think a lot of us feel the same way and what's more; enjoy it! I wonder if people will change their ways/habits after this is all but a distant memory?

    Guernsey is looking stunning!

    1. Thanks Vronni, Guernsey scrubs up well!

We locked down immediately we had our first community transmission, and we've been able to test all known contacts, so that's helped. Good luck for Sunday.

I hope a lot of us maintain our new pared-down norm post-Covid.

      Have a super day, x.

  2. We, too, have now moved on to the next stage. Slowly and cautiously, but I expect your IOM cousins will have kept you up to date.
I, for one, have no plans to go out and about for some time yet!
    Stay safe xx

    1. Yes Jay, our islands are in pretty much the same place. As soon as this kicked off my IoM cuzes and the Guernsey girls set up a WhatsApp group and now we've drifted into lockdown crazy, chatting about everything under the sun but occasionally we share the vital news, like bubble buddying.

I'm going to be wary about getting out there too!
      Have a wonderful Wednesday, x.

  3. Hi-
Thank you for sharing such beautiful scenery so we can enjoy the wonders of your home island. My husband and I drove to see our son, about an hour and a half away and it felt like complete liberation. We really have limited any and all travel to the grocery store and pharmacy and we keep trying to do the right thing (wearing a mask, social distancing) even tho many around us do not....not sure we will venture out too much when restrictions begin to be lifted 5/15/20 here in the desert Southwest US. Take care!

    1. Thank you, Jules. Yes, getting out into the car feels liberating and a tad alien too. Are you allowed to mingled with other households or did you have to keep your distance with your son?
Good luck with your first stage of exit. We've been able to contact trace and test all clusters which has helped squash the curve, and we've had no new cases six days, 🙏 but we're still tippy toeing to avoid a second wave.
      Have a wonderful Wednesday, x.

  4. Hi Mary. We are at level 3 in our country. Morale was getting low in our family yesterday so we had McDonnalds for dinner to remind ourselves there is a world still there outside our bubble. I have teenage boys and food is always on their radar. Though not always the food I would like them to eat! We have 'bubbles' also. What a beautifull place you live in.

    1. Hi Kathryn, and thank you. Stage 3 sounds wonderful eh, are you antipodean? I hear Oz and NZ are considering the idea of bubbling together; the Channel Islands may buddy bubble at some stage but who knows eh.
      Have a wonderful Wednesday, x.

  5. We wait to hear on Sunday or Monday Mary. I feel it is too soon myself but I can't wait to mingle with the family. We went out in the car last week for the first time and I know exactly what you mean about the feeling! xx

    1. I think we're all going to tippy toe when it comes to mingling again, Laurie.

  6. I am glad I found your blog and I am following it today. If you visit my blog today you will see my yellow roses in my garden. Here is California we don't use the term bubbles but I like it. My bubble is me and my dog, and my sons visit outside and we sit 6 feet a part.

    1. Hi Terra, it's so good to hear from you and so interesting to hear how you are coping with the pandemic in California. We are observing strict lockdown rules; we haven't done the outside distance socialising with family yet, though we did try it with neighbours during our recent liberation day, so it's a start.
Have a nice day with your roses, x.
