Date Night with Florence

Friday was a good day.  It started off well (early rise, 3rd on the trot!) and it kept getting better.
The day started sunny.  My golf was good.  Bro popped round for coffee.
And somewhere along the line we planned a date night.

Ready for dating - taupe White Company modal vest and waterfall cardi similar here.

Worn with old M&S jeggings.  If it's chilly, I wrap the cardi and pin with a silver brooch.  Simples.
If I'm wearing it that way, it gets a light ironing as the waterfalling creases the cardi somewhat.

Just wanted to show you what I was walking on.  Heels!
These Adesso shoes are surprisingly comfy.  The taupey shade echoes my outfit but they mix with just about everything.
And they lend a certain swagger to my walk too!

And on to the date.

We had no great expectations for this film but it was charming and poignant.  Meryl was her usual superb self but I felt Hugh and Stephen ovevrshadowed her with their brilliant facial storytelling and portrayals of their players.  They were the main actors for me.

Have you seen this film?  What did you think of it?

The lovely sun disappeared whilst we were in the cinema.  After the film, we drove along to the most westerly tip of the island, Pleinmont.
You can see Fort Grey in the distances, accessed by a little causeway.
We locals call it the Cup and Saucer.  Because that is what it looks like.

And into the Imperial, across from the sea wall.  It serves good pub grub.

The Hanois Lighthouse, seen here, is off the Pleinmont coast.

We fancied some good old Friday night Scampi,
A fitting end to a perfect day and my Date Night with Florence.

My First Date Night Of Summer.

Yesterday was a glorious day.  Made even more glorious by it being
My First Date Night Of Summer.

The day was easy and here I am ready for a morning coffee at the golf club, dressed in M&S linen cut-offs, Artigiano ivory modal vest and mocha Next metallic V-neck. All old, naturligvis.
Now the jumper is one of my Sleepers, like this one here
Bought it for a Christmas long past.  Didn't wear it.  For several years.

Then one day I tried it in summer and hey presto, it became a go-to for summers hence.  It is so thin and light yet hangs well, with little slits on the side, so nice and easy too.

But on to the post in hand.  My First Date Night of Summer.
Well, not really a date as such, we went to a charity AGM and dinner.  Because it's an AGM it happens annually mid-May and tends to be the first evening we go out in true summer.
So it's my First Date Night of Summer.  Technically.  Because I get taken out.  In summer.

A pensioner clutches on to any "out" night as a date night.  Or is that just me?

Anyway, I usually mark the event with The First Dress of Summer,
but more on that in another post.
Here wearing that old go-to, the ivory linen M&S dress and La Redoute floral cardi.
All old, naturellement.
(Those "triffids" in the background are Echia.  They grow like weeds.  Monster weeds!)
The event was held at Les Cotils here

A beautiful and peaceful place.

It's in a pretty location on a hill overlooking our town, St Peter Port.

It's set in some lovely grounds with lovely backdrop buildings.  All old, naturally!

Overlooking St Sampsons harbour to the north

and St Peter Port harbour, with Herm and Sark barely visible to the east.
It was a glorious summer's evening so a bit hazy and these shots were taken with the pocket camera  which didn't help, but perhaps you can get the gist of these photos!

And there you have it.  Summer has officially started.  In my world.
Let's get out there and have some good times, peeps.  Hay fever permitting, naturlicht.

Do you have a regular event that marks the start of your summer?

Thank you, dear reader, for joining me on my First Date Night of Summer.
I hope you enjoyed it.  I did!

I Get A Date Night!

I was surprised by a Friday Date Night.
And after a morning of golf in the rain, I felt I deserved one!
The rain stopped, the day got better but by late afternoon, it had got quite chilly.  Days can be so changeable this time of year.
So, as we were mostly walking to our date, I switched from summery to old faithfuls for warmth.  With hair constrained for the walk.   And a puffa!

My faithfuls of choice were Per Una black jeggings, Marks cardi, Next animal print top.  I chose my good-for-walking Gabor heeled bootees.  Cleaned!  But me and Nubuck are not a good partnership.  They are little tykes to clean!

The Photographer doesn't like Chinese food so it was even more of a surprise to hear that he'd booked a table at the China Red, which had been highly recommended to him.
Highly = Son!
It did not disappoint.

The prawn toasts were the best I've had, with a succulent and generous filling.  Mmmnn.

I especially liked the chow mein of the next course.

The Photographer's view?  Superb food, no MSG.  He'll be back! (I'm v. happy with that!)

And because of golf disrupting meal times, we chose an early sitting ... we were home by 6.55 pm!  That's a record.

Earlier in the sunny part of the day, I'd walked around The Estate and spotted this little clump of bluebells, new on the block.

To compensate for a (v.early!) evening of indulgence, the next day was a virtuous one.

We enjoyed a hearty walk around the lanes.

A nice mix of bluebells, violets and celandines coming through here.

There is so much wild garlic out at the moment.  Here's just one of the numerous vast swathes of wild garlic  ... or Stinking Onions, as we called them as children!

And we made a HUGE bowl of fruit salad.  We were truly virtuous.  Well, apart from the lashings of cream poured on that bowl of virtue ...

Do you like Chinese food?
Do you have a fave dish or restaurant?
