Friday Night? Again?

Friday night out.  Me? Out again?
They really are like buses.  I don't go out for weeks and weeks on a Friday night and then goodness knows how many come along, one after the other.

This is me.  In a bus.  On the way to Town.
With my The Fly sunglasses.  Don't I look like a blow-up of a fly?!

Yes, for last week's Friday treat, we piled into a bus with Dutchie and sped off to town.

Me and The Photographer looking a tad more presentable with freshly-trimmed hair.  He's wearing a Mads Norgaard top bought during our Danish trip,; he loves this top!  I'm wearing a Dotty P black jersey dress.

Our destination, The Boathouse restaurant.

It was busy.

Dutchie took a pic of her rib eye steak, creamed spinach and all the trjmmings.

I took a pic of my lobster and crab roll.

And the photographer took a pic of his scallops.  And his finger.

Dutchie's steak was yummy,

The Photographer's scallops were scrummy.

And the lobster roll didn't hit the sides of my tummy!

Dutchie always takes us out for a meal on the last evening of her holidays.  Thank you, Marianne.

And the next morning we made a big breakfast to keep her going during her long drive back to Holland.

Scrambled local eggs with parmesan.  The best tomatoes we have EVER tasted, from a nearby flower stall.  Super-sweet melon from the hedge stall across the road.
I even went foraging in the garden for fresh flowers to vase up for her.

And for travelling, our friend had chosen to wear the Wink bracelet we gave her during the meal the night before.   Isn't it lovely?

And what was this little imp up to when my back was turned?

What's this naughty young thing done now?

Looking like butter wouldn't melt eh?

But this cheeky little monkey had done a photo-jack on me!  She'd sneaked off with my camera to leave me these photos.  I found them when downloading today.
What a little scallywag!!!

Marianne, we've had a lovely holiday with you, as always.  Please come back again soon.
But next time I may just keep my camera away from naughty little fingers ... ;0)

I hope you've enjoyed my posts featuring my visiting house imp, err I mean, house guest.  What naughty pranks have your guests played on you?  Please share by commenting below!

The Shorts Affair Continues

Hi peeps, thanks for popping in.  Hope you are enjoying the lazy, hazy days of summer.
I've been having some family time in the sun, including a super few days with the GKs.
Along the way I squeezed into the long-awaited denim shorts.  Well, not really squeezed, this latest batch of shorts are rather loose.  But I guess that is practical when the weather is hot.

These are from Dotty P.  I think there's something wrong with the website, it shows only 3 styles left.  Must be an error.  As you can see, they are sort of knee-length denim and, trust me, they are extremely comfy.  You also get a glimpse of my fave tankini too, old and from Bravissimo.  I was ready to hit the beach!

Now, I think these are the pair from Next here.  These are favoured by GD and The Photographer.
So subtle is the difference between the two pairs that I'm not entirely sure which is which!

Worn with a Next longline navy camisole and black hat shading sea-ready face!

At the moment I am doing some positive thinking on my dalliance with shorts.  It may be just a brief encounter.  But if I can forget about what I look like and think of comfort, then maybe, just maybe, shorts and me could turn into an LTR.

How are you doing with shorts this summer?  On?  On and off? Or totally off?

So far beige chinos and jean-shorts are sort-of doing it for me.  And the longer length and the thicker fabric is the combo that stands up to the challenges of my chunky legs.
The old negatives are fading with the good choices I'm making.

GD finds my shorts try-ons/wearing amusing (embarrassing).  Apparently the big issue is the knees (like I didn't know that).  But she has a different take on my knee issue.  It would seem that when my knees bend it doesn't look like they're bending.
I'm still trying to visualise that one!

Do you have any tips or fixes with shorts that works for you?  That you could share with me?
'Cos me and my knees need all the help we can get!

Now, what else have I been up to?  I'm getting to that stage in life when I have to check the diary or my camera to see what I was up to yesterday.  Sound familiar?
OK, so the photographic evidence tells me that I met up for a bite to eat with some girlfriends at our local, the Rockie which is down on the coast.  The one with the nice sunset view over the sea.  Trouble is, my little pensioner eyes only get to see it when the nights start to draw way in, because I'm usually home again by 8pm!

But the pink clouds were a pretty sunset-substitute!

Back to the outfit.  It was a lovely evening so we enjoyed the walk to and from the pub.  I shaded my eyes from the sun with the Next sunhat and as the vibe was casual, I allowed myself to stay comfy in the Birkies.
I really have learned to make sensible choices for the pub-walk, eh?  I arrived home blister-free!

The Next linen mix navy cardi came too.  In my bag the whole evening.

This old Primani jersey maxi dress is just so useful on summer days like this one.  I do believe it will enjoy a place in my suitcase next week when I go to France.

And tonight my guest Marianne has met up with a friend for dinner in town.

Looking so lovely wearing a white/grey toile de jouy style print skirt in  a simple A-line.

I leave you with another try-on.  With my recent holiday in mind, I ordered  this vest, to bring perhaps a little lift to my wardrobe and my days.  Not sure about it.  It trapezes out at the hemline and looks a bit strange on me.  With shorts anyway ... well, wouldn't anything?!
Will try it on with white capri jeans tomorrow.  Because Marianne's come home today with a real pensioner-priced pair for me - £3!!!

Friday Night Celebrating With Friends!

Hi peeps, thanks for popping in.  Can you believe it?  Here we are again, Friday night!
Even though my Working Girl past is way behind me, I still feel something exciting in the air late Friday afternoons.  Time to party! Feeling like I need a little bit of pensioner fun.
I usually like to do something come Friday evening.  it just feels so right.

But before the night comes the day and, as usual, Friday started with an early morning round of golf.  Then breaking with routine, a quick clean up of the house before driving to the harbour to collect my special Dutch friend, Marianne.  She's staying with me for a week.
You've seen Marianne on previous posts back in March, like here when she joined me in Sussex.

Mates!

Here doing my Sandie Shaw, I wore a Next linen mix yellow floral shift dress for the harbour trip.

Needless to say, there was lots of catching up to do.

And she knows how to spoil me, just look at my goodies from Holland!
I love Wohnen!  It's a filled with Dutch house style pics.  I'm a big fan.
Is there any particular country's décor style that you like, apart from that of your own home country?

And then Friday night out!  Wearing the black version of the Next linen mix dress (SS15).
Here I wore a mix of turquoise jewellery and some little black and diamante sandals with a tiny graduated wedge heel; caSS03!

I love this style of dress as it's so easy to wear, just a simple slip on and job done.  It's cool in hot weather as it's nicely loose around the middle.  This dress is so versatile, as black dresses usually are, and can be notched up or down with accessories.
Do you wear black dresses in summer?

And here's Marianne, looking so smart-casual!  White trousers with a mottled print cardi in black/grey/ecru.  She looks lovely, eh?

We were invited round to our over-the-fence neighbours.  Some chilled sparkly pink out in the evening sun.  That's my garden over the fence!  Not far to go home, eh?  No need for a taxi.

A super salmon parcel and a tasty pea shoot garnish.  Lovely fresh, delicate flavours.

Served with a chilled pinot grigio.  In a Transylvania glass!  Brought back from Romania.
Can you make out the black bats?

Lamb tagine, some fancy couscous mix, fruity braised red cabbage and a mix of beans bought at the farmer's market a few hours before.  Yummy!

And here it all goes a bit crazy.
Strawberry meringues dipped in chocolate, fresh raspberries from the farmer's market, rhubarb from their garden served as a compote with a marscapone and ginger topping ...

... and as if we weren't already spoilt for choice, a super-citrusey lemon meringue pie!

My neighbour is a superb cook and she and her husband are the best host and hostess team.
Thank you neighbours, we had a super evening.

And this glass is for you!

For after the long journey home :-), I checked my blog and saw that I'd reached a milestone for my blog in terms of page reads.
I raise this glass to you, my very dear readers.  Thank you for popping in to see me.
I am so very thrilled that you enjoy reading my posts.
I'm still a rookie and after six months of posting, I continue feeling my way through the blogisphere but hope that my mix of pics n snippets in some small way serves to brightens your day.

Thank you for your sweet comments, I love to hear from you, to find out a little more about you and what you're up to. .I feel privileged and humbled that you spare me some of your previous time.

I was so happy to celebrate this special Friday night with you too!!!
