What A Difference A GHD Makes!

I've smartened up my act.  Just a bit.  I went to the hairdresser yesterday.

Tadaah!!!

I spent a pleasant hour in here, flipping through Hello mags (gotta be done!) ...

... whilst Nikki at Tinas-Hair-Studio chopped my hair in at the sides, took a fair bit off the bottom and tidied up my messy fringe.  All long-overdue, judging from recent pics on this blog! I think she did a good job, considering what she has to work with.  Me.  I just need to mess it up a bit now!

What about you - has your hair gone shorter, longer or stayed the same?
Have you let your hair go au naturel or do you have some whizzy colour treatments?
I'm intrigued to know how others deal with hair "of a certain age".

For the auspicious occasion I wore taupe 7/8ths chinos and some v. old metallic flatties, both M&S.

And I topped these with, well, not so much A Sleeper but more a Snoozer.
I bought the Next  black metallic bead-trimmed shown above about a year ago.  And I didn't feel inspired to wear it,  just like the metallic sweater I wore recently here.

So my black metallic sweater hung in the wardrobe, dormant.  Then yesterday, just like with its taupe mate, I realised that metallic knits actually work well for cool summer days.  Because they are thin and tend to be long and slouchy.
So the black beady knit has now been kissed out of its dormant state by a handsome prince (poetic embellishment) and has been brought to useful life in my wardrobe.  First stop, the hairdresser.

Now peeps, must dash as I'm off to see my Great Niece.  It's her 1st birthday soon so I'm popping round with her pressie whilst she's at Granny and Pop's.  I'll show you what I've got her, but please don't spill the beans if you see her before the big day!

It's from Next.  It's it cute?! She is going to look gorgeous in this little outfit.

Oh dear.  This was going to be a quick dive post today.  Look where it's led me.  Showing you toddler's dresses!
Trouble is, when I start chatting with you guys, I just loose all sense of time and focus!

Food For Brain And Belly

Yesterday was another action-packed kiddywinks day.
There was a fun reading and craft event for the holidaying children at the Guille-Alles Library in town, here as it is now on the left of the picture.

The Library was founded in 1888 by two returning Guernsey carpenters who had been inspired by and were in-awe of a library they had frequented whilst working in New York.

Messrs Guille and Alles had a vision which they turned into a reality many years later through dogged determination.  Since then, the practical results of their dream and go-get spirit have touched so many grateful readers looking for knowledge, their actions have fed many hungry brains.

The building (outside and in) hasn't really changed too much since these early photographs, thankfully.

I've used the Library since childhood, so it is wonderful that today's generation is still enjoying all that it has to offer.

We had a great time!

Later, with freshly trimmed fringe :-) ...

... I slipped into Next Slim Jeans here, Woolovers silk/cotton cardi in navy, similar in sale here, and an old printed camisole from Next.

And this is getting kinda embarrassing - I also slipped into that H&M shirt.  Again!

Dressed for the pub, I joined up with some lovely girlies for a catch-up curry night at The Last Post.
A great night, lots of chatting and just a little wine ...

How did your local library come about?
Has it changed much over the years?
Is it still a fun place to visit?!

What I Did in the Holidays

I got creative with cardboard boxes!
Half-term coincided with some Amazon deliveries = cardboard boxes = creativity.

Immediately the boxes were emptied, we got going with making a garage complete with ramp from one box (no good photos, unfortunately) and a decorated basket for carrying small collectibles with the other.  We made up some of our own characters to decorate the sides.   Creativity and fun inspired by Amazon and its sturdy boxes.

Here's our decorated collectibles basket:

Don't you just love younger people's infectious enthusiasm, imagination and sometimes outside-the-box (see what I did there?!) ideas?
Thank you, Little People, for letting me join your world!

And we met this little fella when out walking, a dear little Shetland Pony (sorry about bad pic)

Our fun continued with a birthday meal for GS, complete with Storm Trooper birthday cake.
I would absolutely LOVE to share with you a photo of his ST cake,
but technology has frustratingly failed me .

So instead, you get what I wore!
Woolovers charcoal cashmere-merino polo neck; Dorothy Perkins denim skirt, v.old;
Gabor brown Anna knee boots.

3/4 camel coat from Dorothy Perkins,
the faithful Next print scarf draped over the shoulders, granny-style!

I remember the challenge as a child, returning from school holidays and having to write that dreaded essay, What I Did in the Holidays.  The challenge for me was how to fill a page with "I went to the beach"!

Now, what did you do in the holidays?

A la perchoine.

ps. As I've been typing this, 60 mph winds, hailstorms and thunder and lightening have been pounding down on my turret.  Fortunately, the former has moved the others swiftly away.
