Summerhouse Styling

Hello my lovelies!
Lockdown life moves on a pace on the island.  We've had no new cases in a fortnight and just a handful are in recovery.
We were lucky enough to close our borders right at the beginning of lockdown and any essential workers arriving have had to quarantine for 14 days.  That was a solid plan and islanders seem grateful.
How are things where you are?

I've seen a marked upturn in my social life during these months with at least one long video  call most days.   It can be exhausting!!
Today is the one day this week I have no planned video calls though, so I'm hoping to make it a constructive day outside.
So best get on with it and leave you with a quickie post today.

Summerhouse Styling - The Surplus Mattress.
.

Wondering how to store a surplus mattress?
.
Bung it behind the sofa and chuck a quilt on it.  Easy!
.
But I'm think it works, the mattress just seems to disappear eh?

Do you have any tips on storing bulky items like a mattress?

Summerhouse Styling - The Gossip Chair.

.
As a brown wood chair it sat in my gran’s house.  It had been handed down to her.  As children we observed that it was the place where her adult visitors (like our mum) would sit and spill out their news.

They spoke together in Guernsey French patois which was adult-speke and we kiddies hadn't a clue what they were talking about (we spoke english).  But from their tone and body language we knew the chatter was local chitchat and not world politics.
So we Sibs named it The Gossip Chair.
.
I saved it when we cleared gran’s house nine years ago because I felt it was key to the house and our memories of it, and last week I finally painted it. .
.
I’d thought long and hard before applying paint to it.  But its heritage and integrity are still there IMHO, it’s just been given a new lease of life ... and it looks rather happy for that. .

.
It will probably take me another ten years to reupholster the seat!.

I loving saving things.  You too?
Do you like upcycling?  Mending?  Fixing?
TP and I are avid make do and menders.  During this lockdown, TP and I have been making do and mending with the bits and pieces we find around the house, shed and garden, rather than heading to the DIY shop for them paint, bits of wood etc, which of course we can’t do right now.

It’s worked well - err apart from when he’d been zealously fixing garden furniture with bits of  “really good” wood he’d found in the shed, only to discover after fixing picnic table and garden sofa that he’d been using the slats from a bed we’d dismantled!  Oooops!

Summerhouse Styling - The Leaded Glass Cabinet
.

I’m rather pleased with how this cabinet has come out.

I’ve had it for 35 years and it was due a revamp.

Two panes had fallen out over the years, which I’d kept in a safe place whilst it was stored in an old shed.  Sticking them back in with gorilla glue was but a moment’s work. .

A dab of leftover white paint and it now merges into the summerhouse wall and looks quite serene. And the white shelves now showcase the leaded glass.  Double divi !!
