Hi my lovelies.
Well, you only need to look as far as the photos below to see that I wasn’t very creative with my outfits. And to be honest, I have been so busy with House and Garden that there seems little inclination to even put on smarter trousers than my day-to-day working gear.
So let’s dive in and see the what I actually did wear from my ACCIDENTAL CAPSULE (click HERE) when leaving the house during the month.
Out for lunch on a spring day, which actually turned out to be quite warm. I added an ivory cashmere V-neck to my capsule and at the same time archived a few heavier jumpers. I really hope I can update you with a revised capsule post very soon.
I also pulled out a lighter coloured cardi for spring. However, the weather was so damn hot that the cardi stayed home.
Plaited Jones bag and my faithful scarf, a lucky charity shop find.
It was so lovely to have photos taken outside on this sunny day.
I also brought in a pair of old jeans, which I thought might be just right for this variable spring weather. I paired them with an old V-neck cashmere in navy that I thought might be handy for spring. In fact, I think navy may well be one of my colours for the next few months.
Some red leather flats came in as part of my footwear switch.
The pretty blue and pink scarf is my bread and butter accessory in spring.
A white collar lightweight down gilet is also something I wear a lot this time of year.
And then I went out for afternoon tea!
It was fun nd raiser for a charity garden centre.
No surprise, the theme for the charity tea was “wear floral “. I dragged out this old East dress, which has abundance of flower and leaf in its pattern. The dress is 23 years old and silk. And here’s the embarrassing thing, I
can’t recall ever having washed it in those 23 years! It’s one of those dresses that doesn’t crease, doesn’t get dirty or smelly, really requires no attention whatsoever. It is my type of dress!
It’s sleeveless so of course I needed some arm cover. I pulled out the ivory colored cardi again and it went pretty nicely with the dress IMHO, it lended a casual informal air to quite a formal dress (bought for a wedding). I teamed it with a Jones lattice bag bought probably at the same time in 2002 and some strappy shoes in a grey tone.
which finished off the outfit, rather nicely I thought.
It felt good poshing up to go out!
And no surprise again, TP doesn’t own a floral shirt, or trousers for that matter! So I conjured up a floral cravat for him from the scarf I’ve worn all winter ad nauseam. Worn with chinos and a green check shirt, I thought this outfit rather dapper, and I wouldn’t mind if he wore this combo again. The look is very 1940s film star goes casual.
Most of the time, however, I was wearing these berry colored coated jeans. I absolutely love them and I’m gonna have to prise myself out of them come early summer.
My pink puffer also came out for spring, it’s down filled and very light, perfect for this time of year.
OOTD finished off with outfit with TP’s cravat!
I wore this Rua dress for a birthday party I hosted.
I count this and the floral dress above as occasional wear that is brought out for one off occasions, and the Accidental Capsule is the core for my day to day. However, I may integrate this dress as part of my spring AC, I think that might work.
Yes, I really am going to have to be prised out of these berry coated jeans. They must be about 6-7 years old now and they are truly well worn, I will grieve bigly when they fall apart.
I paired them with my taupe V-neck and a warm gilet which as outerwear so is a no-count capsule item. Not that I need to tell you this because I haven’t put together my capsule update yet so these are just unnecessary words!
Ta-da! For a complete change, I wore my black coated jeans on this occasion! Subtle change huh?!
I also pulled out a taupe cashmere cardi, and a similar coloured ribbed short sleeve top. Together, I call these a twin set, a great duo for spring smart-wear.
I must’ve been going out for a lunch, yet again, so I’m pleased to see that I did allow myself a few breaks from the hard graft at home.
I paired a cream/black pendant and black beaded necklace together to bring in the colours of the outfit.
Aaah, portfolio tucked under arm. Now I see I wasn’t going out for lunch. I was off to a business meeting. Hence me dressing up a little smarter than usual, as one has to scrub up a little for this type of occasion eh.
And here I am again, uber casual but still wearing those berry coated jeans. I do believe they will need to be surgically removed from my body come the summer!
Plus puffa.
Yep, the berry coated jeans yet again. Worn with my green cashmere jumper and that old faithful floral scarf, a.k.a. TP’s cravat!
And it was another chilly day so the white gilet came out to play.
The Epilogue
Yes, there has been much repetition this month, but I don’t see that as dull, more that I’m showing ways my 10 or so piece Accidental Capsule has weathered the transition so far.
What I’m seeing from this little display of what-I-wore-when-not-wearing-working-clothes is that this time of year a light puffa or gilet are the ubiquitous extra layers for a transition wardrobe. In my world anyway.
And I don’t for one minute imagine that coated jeans are leaving my capsule for the next month or so whilst there is still a chill in the air.
Do you have a hard and fast uniform for occasions outside of the house? Mine seems to have evolved as coated jeans, a jumper and some form of light down third layer. What’s yours? I’d love to hear.
Please don’t forget to leave a comment, and if you haven’t already subscribed then please please please do!
A la perchoine,

Great to see your pics of your AC. I think you do an excellent job with this idea that I am trying to copy. My usual bottoms are jeans - sad - I am always on the look out for an alternative for the transition seasons. Green is such a good colour on you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anonymous, I’m pleased you’re finding some inspo. A small capsule simplifies choices. Today I’m shopping my wardrobe for a new capsule as choosing a lunch outfit for a sunny yesterday was a torture and reminded me of how things used to be with a huge wardrobe in use. Hope to post on this in the next week.

Hi Mary, your coated jeans are great and so useful. I'm going to try to assemble a capsule wardrobe too, so much easier I feel. Trish x
ReplyDeleteOh it is easier Trish, but it’s better just to start with a few core pieces and then add as you spot the holes in the capsule. Good luck, and please let me know how you get on.

Oh, I enjoyed your outfit recap! Love thr scarf you add: they give that extra pizzaz to the outfits and those berry colored jeans are some good ones. I have a few special occasion dresses that hang in my closet that have only been worn once or twice. Need to find some occasions to pull them out.

Hi Mireille, I’m so pleased you enjoyed the recap. Perhaps adding a cardi or jumper to those dresses could casualize them a bit so’s you get to wear those beauties a little more …
