Joy Seeker

Hello my lovelies!

To say I was super-excited is an absolute understatement.

This beaut on the right came into my world, and with it one mega blast of excitement !

I’ve told you previously how much I’m sold on the idea of morning smoothies.
In fact I was even seen clutching my smoothie bottle in my last post!

I have a Breville blender here in Guernsey and one in Sussex, as I just cannot be without this quick fix smoothie machine.
Both are pink.
The pink goes perfectly with the grey and raspberry colour scheme in the Sussex house.
But in the blue, black and copper kitchen in Guernsey, not so much.

Then this came into my world.
A version in sexy black and rose gold.
And it has totally found its rightful place in my kitchen.

Together with my toaster it makes the holy trinity of black and rose gold kitchen gadgets.

Now I know this may  does all sound quite shallow and certainly insensitive in the context of our lives right now, but sometimes I need to get back to a simple and shallow place to ground and uplift myself, to find solace, and this discovery took me to that much-needed place.  Momentarily.  So I wanted to share this with you.

I’m not going to lie, this recent lockdown hit me hard and it’s left me sometimes struggling to feel joy.
And I’m wondering how you have been faring in lockdown?
Have you needed to uplift your spirits?
Does finding a shallow place work for you as it sometimes does for me?

Where do you find your joy?

I’d like to hear of your experiences, if you care to share - I need some inspo because I’m running out of black and rose gold kitchenware aspirations!!

Meantime, back at the ranch, I’ve been finding joy in listening to this on Alexa.

Joy Bringer

Hugs, Mary x.

  1. Hooray, I can post directly onto your PP blog instead of through an email. Don't ask me how because I couldn't tell you. Really loving your black and copper appliances; very stylish! Your toaster looks almost otherwordly and snazzy. Are those two vertical 'windows' to check on the colour of the toast??
You ask how we have been getting through the lockdown. Well, we started ours in the 3rd week of December but things are looking up and rules have been slackened somewhat earlier this week. Vaccination programme not quite on schedule but moving along... However, we are still not able to go out for dinner or drinks inside bars. Terraces are open now but who wants to have lunch in 10 degree temperatures (it has been the coldest April since recording began...snow, sleat and hail included). Painting has been my saving grace during the lockdown. Nothing else to do or nowhere to go and loving this pastime. A hobby to completely 'disappear' into and shut the world out. I must say that for me personally the lockdown has not been a nuisance at all. Just felt sorry for the elderly who were not able to receive visitors for a long period of time or people on the ICUs who were not able to say their goodbyes to loved ones...heartbreaking. Spring is here, summer somewhere in the near future too so things are looking up. All is well in Dutchland!

    1. FINALLY you’ve managed to get through Dutchie, fabulous! Well I’m going to have to check whether they ARE windows Oon that toaster, I thought it was just the space the bar went down!
Thank you for report on life in Dutchland over the winter and spring. I think we’ve all found much sadness in this second lockdown. But it’s wonderful that you can find an uplift to your day in painting, I must try to structure my day to take up painting again. Thanks for your inspo!

  2. I love your stylish kitchen gadgets. Mine are woefully outdated but the other half refuses to replace them if they are still working!
Lockdown joy? Well, as you probably know, our lockdown has just been lifted.. for good this time. If the plague returns we just have to live with it now.
I am not sure about joy as such just yet. Probably not until this house move is all done and dusted then you will hear me singing from the rooftops!

    1. Oh that curmudgeon of a Lord P, I’m going to have to have a word with him!
No I didn’t pick up on that every man for himself approach, my IoM cousins have failed me on their jungle drum reporting.
Chanting for your house sale as I type.

  3. Love the new blender and the colourway is beautiful. I didn't realise you have a house in Sussex, too. You must have missed that badly during lockdown and I hope you can get to go there now.

I found the lockdown annoying, but I tried to live my life as normally as I could. The thing I hated the most was the 'living in fear' aspect of it and I soon stopped that by giving myself frequent talking to's!

As for finding joy it's hard to find joy in anything, Mary, when you're depressed; it sounds as if you were depressed by the lockdown.

I find joy in my family and in nature, in particular. I can also find joy in a charity shop; a library and listening to music.

I wish you plenty of joy from whatever brings you joy!

    1. Hi Vronni,
re Sussex, I married hubs late in life and I’m from Guernsey and he’s from the UK.
Yes the living in fear has been difficult, and exit is almost worse as one loses the cocoon of lockdown.
I loved to hear about where you find joy. My hubs has always played Classic FM ALL day and as much as I like classical music it can often be quite sullen and I like so many types of other music, so part of my self-therapy is to now allow myself time with “my” music and that has lifted me up.
      Thanks for our chat, Vronni!

  4. Loving your new kitchen appliances - what super colours. I'm with you on feeling stressed and fed up with lock-down. It's just getting a bit too much now.

    1. Hi Jacqui,
Yes, second/third lockdown has been difficult for so many. Hope you’re getting there now as you ease out.
I’m trying to find time for link-ups but it’s hard!

  5. Don't feel bad for enjoying the simple things in life like matching appliances! I think we need to seize joy wherever we find it these days! I hope that your lockdown gets lifted soon too. We are so lucky here, our first lockdown in Queensland was 6 weeks but the ones after that have just been 3 days, and we have had I think 3 of them since last March? Not that the last one really counts, after the case got out of quarantine we managed to get all the contacts traced and put into quarantine so quickly that it was only 2 and a half days of lockdown!
I know we are so luck that hotel quarantine for all people who fly into the country is working to keep us safe - although with some cases spreading to the poor doctors looking after those infected people I really wish we would be better at vaccinating everyone!

Hope that you had a good weekend :) It's a relaxing long weekend for us!

    1. Thanks for sharing your lockdown experiences Mica. Australia has done so well and it’s such a shame the UK didn’t put in the lockdown hotels thing a year ago. It’s interesting to hear that these brief circuit breakers have worked so well, amazing. We went into our second lockdown immediately we found community spreading, that helped enormously.

  6. Your kitchen gadgets are quite styling, I like the black electric tea kettle, very handsome. I find my joy these days as I always have, in Jesus, women's Bible study (on Zoom this past year), my family, friends, flowers. And more of course. In a way, the first four months or so were the hardest, as the horror and prison feeling hit me. Now I have found ways to cope.

    1. It’s certainly been a rollercoaster been a year Terra, and we’ve had to learn to cope with a new phenomenon in life. It was good to hear of your coping mechanisms, thanks for sharing.
Oh and I popped over to your page and found some great gardening ideas, and I’ve left you some comments.

  7. Your kitchen gadgets look great Mary. I love the black and rose gold mix, I am sure they add a nice touch to your kitchen and the fact that you are using them to nourish yourself is even better.

  8. Love those rose gold and black gadgets! My kitchen badly needs decorating and that's a colourway I'd consider! My coping mechanism is new plants....xx
