Hi my darlings, summer is here, even though it may be just for today!
Yes, summer is here today but may be gone tomorrow, from S17's track record to-date, so let's wear summer dresses whilst the sun shines.
I recently saw a post here on The Vivienne Files, a repeat of an older post, and it got me thinking that my navy bardot dress hasn't come out to play at all this summer. So I remedied that little oversight of mine on this sunny day.
On came the bardot dress, with my shoulder strap adaptation.
The so talented Janice had put together some lovely variations in her post based around a simple navy dress, so I thought it would be fun to see how many of those colour combos I had already tried. My navy bardot dress featured on several posts last year, like here.
It featured in my best buys of 2016 post here, where I chose a monochrome look with a navy cardi slung over the shoulders and worn with neutral nude heeled sandals.
Janice's navy with pink.
My navy and pink, from last year.
Jamie's next set, maybe a bit Blushy, but I see the left cardi going in the direction of beige.
And classy navy and beige had inspired me to save these pics of Helen - I do so want to have a go at this combo, so I'm saving it for another day.
Similarly, I would love to try Janice's suggestion of yellow with navy, but I still can't find my yellow cardi, so that one is on back burner too.
But navy and jade, oh how my eyes opened admiringly when I saw this pairing in her recent post reprise.
I searched my back issues and saw that I'd made some steps in that direction last year, with turquoise jewellery.
But I wanted to try jade. I love navy and green together. It excites me. It whets my whistle!
So having started with a jade necklace, I went a rummaging in my wardrobe.
I came up with my lovely jade, pink and navy soft silk scarf.
Why hadn't I thought of pairing it with the dress before I do not know, for I loved the blend.
I tried it loosely.
First casually to the side.
Then more centrally when my jade cardi was slipped on to complete the look.
And thus my navy with jade outfit was complete. I'll tell you where I took this little outfit in my next post.
Of course, the cardi was discarded by the time I reached my destination, I'm pleased to say, as the day was gorgeously warm and sunny!
So, Janice and I are on the same wavelength with navy. A simple navy dress can enjoy so many pretty pairings.
What about you? Do you have a simple navy dress?
Do you enjoy seeing how many different colourways you can can get from this stylishly classic neutral?
A la perchoine.
Hello Poutie
ReplyDeleteQuite right you are - If not now, WHEN?!
I do enjoy your blog.

Lizer Pearl
Poutie! Love it!
DeleteAbsolutely, as my header reminds us, if we don't get wearing our summer dresses now, then when?
So glad you're enjoying the blog, Lizer, x.
Those looks are all great - nicer than anything I imagined when I wrote that post!
ReplyDeletebig hugs,
Janice
Oh so kind, Janice, I'm always thankful for your inspiration, with colour and everything else sartorial. Thanks for popping in to see one of your posts give birth!!!
DeleteHugs, x.
I do have. Mine was used with a navy and white jacket in Manchester post. I love your adaptions and may well do another being. Oh well have such similar taste dear older twin.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Anna, I loved that dress! Let's see it again soon. So looking forward to your new adaptations, my dear younger twin! x.
DeleteAs your post shows, blue goes great with several colours as well as blue itself. I like every combination . Your blue dress has a lovely shoulder strap adaptation! Very inspiring ...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the last days of August!
Hi Dan, navy is do good to work from. Glad you like what I've put together so far, next stop is my Helen look. I sewed petersham strips to conceal my heavy-duty bra straps!
DeleteHave a happy week. Hugs, x.
I truly believe navy is the new black and the wealth of colors that look great with it is spectacular! Speaking of spectacular, you look absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAlways so charming, Andrea, thank you! I guess navy is kinder to the face and it provides a softer contrast to colour than black. But I'm happy for black to be the new black too, I like it a lot! x.
DeleteGreat post! I usually wear a black dress but in the summer I switch to navy. These were inspiring. I am planning on wearing my navy dress to an upcoming fall wedding and I hadn't even thought of jade to go with it. Hmmmmm. Might have to try that together. ~Mary
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, thank you so much. Yes, navy is softer for summer, inspiring a nice French maritime look maybe (note to self, haven't tried red and white!). Would love to follow your outfit plans, hope you pop back to keep us apprised, x.
DeleteHello PP-You are looking well, hope that your flu has truly gone! I do not currently own a navy dress but a skirt, trousers, shorts, a cardigan, a jean jacket, and ankle pants live in my closet!! My very fave combo is to wear it with green. As the years go by, I am moving away from black, especially near my face, and toward shades of blue. I think that the navy and green mix is so appealing because it makes me think of grass and sky and my mind finds that combination restful. I have to be careful with the intensity of greens I wear however, because I have so much pink in my skin and greens can sometimes drain my face somewhat. (think of green and red on the color wheel-they are opposites and react with one another) Looking forward to your next post and details of your adventures in cute navy dress. Thanks for such an engaging and inspiring post!
ReplyDeleteHi Jules, thank you, glad I'm not looking fluey, it did lurk. And thank you for your very kind words.
DeleteAahh, a fellow navy and green fan! And yes, think navy's kinder to us ladies of a certain age. Love your sky and grass analogy. You sound like you know a lo about colour -your word today is colour = farve!
Knus, x
My word for the day!!! Hooray:) Thank you for sharing! Your day at the beach looked so wonderful and I think that I would love that beach-side restaurant in both kinds of weather to be truthful. I am trying to convince the hubby that a cruise around the Baltic is on my wish list but he seems to prefer warmer waters....someday I will see a coast like yours! Have yourself another Perfect Day-the BBC video was a treat!
DeleteHi again Jules, and davs (your mot du jour!)
DeleteYes the coastline is wildly dramatic when the storm is whipping up the sea, you just need to make sure you're not driving along the coast road at the time!
How about this for a compromise? Do a Baltic cruise in summer, you get the coastal beauty and hubby gets the warm(ish) water?
Hugs and good weekend wishes, x.
That's a super plan...any plan that gets me out of the Arizona desert in the summertime is ideal! Have a lovely weekend and get out to enjoy your new garden/pergola!
DeleteMary you look phenomenal in that navy dress - pack it for your cruise! I love it with the jade, actually it looks good with everything. Navy is a nice alternative to the LBD, it's less harsh but so flattering and easily works in a more formal environment, like a fancy dinner on a cruise (wink, wink). You have found the LND (little navy dress) that we're all going to want. You trendsetter you!
ReplyDeletexo,
Kellyann
My LND thanks you for fighting its corner to get in my cruise case! Oh, we are sistas indeed, I just wrote LND, thought it was funny, then saw you've come up with the acronym too!
DeleteKellyann, you make me giggle, trendsetter, moi?!! But seriously, a plain navy dress is such a great asset to a wardrobe, which Janice demonstrated so well. Hugs, x.
A navy dress is so so useful and as you are discovering goes with all sorts of colours. Thanks for opening my eyes to all these combos.
ReplyDeleteHi Christy, well this is just a simple jersey dress but I think the simpler the better works if you want to get good mileage from a dress. I was so surprised when I read the lovely Janice's post and then realised I'd already got quite a few of her suggested colour pairings under my belt. And I'm excited to try more! I hope you try a few of the colours too and pop back to tell us what you liked best, ok? Hugs, x.
DeleteLove your look! Isn't navy a great blank canvas to start with?
ReplyDeleteHi Cathy and welcome to my blog! Oh yes, it's just the perfect vehicle to carry a whole range of summer looks. I'm having fun testing out new colours! hugs, x.
DeleteNavy is a great base for many colors. Love your dress with the scarf and cardi.
ReplyDeleteHi Fonda, welcome to my blog. Thank you so much for your sweet words. After years of just teaming navy with, well, another navy, my eyes have been opened to what plain old navy really does bring to the party! hugs, x.
DeleteI just love that dress, and all the ways you styled it. It looks gorgeous on you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amy, so sweet of you. The dress is so versatile that it makes styling it a doddle. Hugs, x.
DeleteBeautiful dress and beautiful look, I love your accessories!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my blog, J-M. and that you for your most kind words.
