What Would Grace Wear - The Chunky Knit

Hello my lovelies!

Well spring is certainly here for those
of us in the northern hemisphere.
As it’s what the fashionistas call a transitional season, the weather can be variable, from a vest in the back garden to full-on puffa and woolly hat.

This is when the chunky knit comes into its own. It’s the perfect piece for layering but still providing some warmth as outerwear.

This happens to be my all time favourite chunky.  I thinks it’s from Windsmoor.
I slip this beaut on over anything and everything and feel soooo good.  It’s also my go-to indoor cardi for when I’m feeling poorly.  It cocoons me and I feel somehow like I’m already on the mend.
I’ve had this cardi for years, and bought it when cocoon cardi was just a glint in some knitwear designer’s eye.

Yes, some clever bod took the chunky cardi, ran with the idea that women tend to wrap them round for comfort and feel cocooned, and lo and behold the chunky was re-branded a cocoon cardi!

So let’s talk about cocoon cardis.
Grace made the cocoon cardi an overnight sensation.  She wore this one on the show and it sold out overnight, quite literally!

Here doing the comforting wrap thing, cocooned with black trousers

Yes, you slip this babe on and do feel like you’re on the mend, even if you weren’t poorly to start with!

Here with jeans

Posing to mimic my portrait!

Here’s my own version of Grace’s coco bought from M&S.
I’ve worn it in many guises but I guess my fave is with a simple black column of black vest and jeans.

I’ve also worn it with a lace silk cami, but could I find a photo of that? No I could not!
So here’s a variation of it with a cashmere knit.
I do like the juxtaposition of something soft and feminine like this cami worn with something rough and more casual like a chunky cardi.  It’s the yin and yang of dressing.

Is the chunky cardi your layer of choice in spring?
Do you have a chunky cocooning cardi?
And if so, do you mix up a but with a frothy girlie layer?

Next post I tackle my pickiness with prints, or maybe the dreaded sweatpants!  Depends on what time I have, I’m so busy doing house reno, cleaning and de-cluttering right now.  You too?  Or are you enjoying a more peaceful and soul-uplifting March?

Hugs, Mary x.

  1. I love both your chunky cardis - the Windsmoor and the M&S versions. So cosy.
I do have a chunky cardi but, alas, it is an ivory colour and whenever I wear it I seem to spill something on it! It takes an age to dry after washing, being so chunky(!) so it doesn't leave my wardrobe often enough.

  4. Yes, I love a chunky knit, Mary. I had quite a few so whittled them down to just a couple; I like to wear them instead of a coat or jacket rather than for comfort. Your chunky knit looks so good on you.

    1. Yes Vronni, they are indeed a good replacement for a jacket right now. And I’m so impressed with your whittling down of chunky jackets!

  6. Mary, I don't have one and need one. If I didn't have so many knitting projects in the plan, I would get started now! I remember this cardi she wore and loved it. Now, I don't like all the clothes they pick out for Jane to wear as Grace, but this particular look was gorgeous.

    1. Terri, you sooo need one! I agree that this was one of her best wardrobe items. And yes, some of the lady who lunches outfits weren’t really her. So pleased you enjoyed the series as much as me!

  7. although we don't have the weather for the chunkiest styles of this cardigan I do love a good cocoon cardigan for winter - you're right that it's just the cosiest style of cardigan and you have some great ones! :)

Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! Hope you are having a good weekend. The rain has stopped here so we went out to one of the unflooded trails in the neighbourhood yesterday :)
