Hello my lovelies!
As you may have spotted, I’m attempting to keep my hand in with this blogging malarkey.
My return wasn’t really planned, it was spontaneous, so I’m feeling my way right now. Behind the scenes I’ve been giving some thought to where I might go with this blog in terms of content and frequency and, TBH, the time it’s worth me spending of this page. And apropos that, you might like to help me out here.
Is there any content you’d like to see, prefer, and do you enjoy actually reading blogs rather than looking at the pictures?
Time is an issue and you may find you prefer to read short blog posts with lots of pictures, or maybe vice versa. And is frequency a factor here? Maybe you pop into blogs once a week and only have time to read one post from each blog. Your time is precious and so is mine, and I receive no financial reward for my efforts so it’s important I allocate my time meaningfully, so please tell me about this whole time issue.
And lastly and very importantly, do you read my reply to your comment? I spend a huge amount of time replying in detail to comments because I look on you all as mates, but I wonder if you actually read them, in which case my time could be spent actually producing content rather than writing into the ether.
I’d love it if you could take the time to give me some brief input in this direction, please be honest, and thank you verrrry much in advance for your time.
So let’s move on to today.
Fancy rustling up a quick sweet treat on a cold day? Well oh my golly gosh, these are quick AND tasty ... and they really shouldn’t work. But DO!

ICE CREAM SCONES (?!!)
Yes it does sound a bit oxymoronic eh?
Ice cream. In a scone.
Those two words would not normally be juxtaposed, but they are, here, today.
But, ignoring the fact that this defies logical thought and comprehension, here is the recipe. For what it is worth.

ICECREAM SCONES
Combine 1 cup each of Self Raising flour and ice cream. (Yes, REALLY! You’re going to have to put your trust in me.)
Shape into balls and place on a greased baking sheet.
(Since I made my first batch I’ve decided that patting each one down a little may give a more traditional scone shape.)
Yield about 6 scones.

Bake for about 15 minutes at 180c, till just slightly coloured.

EAT!!!
VARIATION
You can add fruit to the mix, such as sultanas or blueberries, but if you add fruit you MUST add 1tspn baking powder to the mix. It’s a rule!
And of course a fruit mix will yield more than 6 scones

Baking (and eating) really doesn’t get easier than that.

I admit I crossed my fingers when I made these because combining flour and icecream and sticking it in a hot oven felt soooo wrong*. The result should be a hot sticky mess! But it wasn’t and instead out came perfectly intact little scones for afternoon tea.

ReplyDeleteWith regards to blogging, I have a Reading List activated on my own Blog page which tells me when new content has been added to any blogs that I follow. I use that to tell me to pop across and take a look rather than reminding myself to check on a regular basis.
I enjoy all content. I just love sharing other people's lives!
I do check back to read if there have been any replies to my comments, especially if I have forgotten to tick the Alert Me box!

ReplyDeleteWe cannot believe this receipt but we shall definitely give it a try. As you say, it must be all down to a chemical reaction but it does just seem like magic at first glance.
We have just returned to the Blogosphere after a six year gap. There are, as we see it, no tried or tested rules. Just be yourself, write about what pleases and interests you and other like minded souls will find you.
The reading list tip from JC is a good one as many hours can be lost in the Blogger Reading List which seems very strange.
And, very important, we feel, to respond to comments. After all, we all enjoy positive feedback. Good luck!

Icecream Scones - Wow, I will try these! Mary, I check-in to Gail;s blog every 2nd day or so, and from her list of preferred blogs I can immediately see if yours is updated at a glance. I like pictures of outfits mostly but I do enjoy the commentary too. I always read your replies. You should do what suits you, it is your blog, but I did miss your posts and was wondering how you were doing. I don't look at Insta - which tells I am not just a pic person. Rgds, Lise

Hello Mary, your scones look amazing. Something fun to try. I too am not an Insta person and think that bloggers like yourself add so much more with their personal insight and experiences alongside photos, rather than just images. I most certainly read your replies to my comments and you are most courteous in your replies. Please keep up the mix of fashion for us more mature girls who still love clothes and also the interesting pieces about Guernsey as this is fascinating for those of us living elsewhere. I am a Welsh girl but living in Scotland in a small village.

DeleteThat recipe sounds right up my street! I assume it's plain ice cream i.e. vanilla? We usually have Cornish ice cream or Lidl's wonderful gelato in vanilla. Would they be ok?
ReplyDeleteNow, as to the is blogging malarkey. I would say it depends what you want out of blogging. Personally speaking I have no interest in promoting any company's products; becoming famous or renowned. I know how time consuming blogging is and that's why I only blog fortnightly. I spend usually Monday and Tuesdays reading and commenting on blogs I follow (on my side bar) but I also have a a number of blogs that I just read and never comment on although I enjoy them all. I always try to reply to comments left on my blog and appreciate it when people reply to my comments on their blogs. So, yes, I do read the comments you make on your blog! However, I unfollow and stop reading bloggers who never reciprocate by commenting on my blog.
I also think blogs with photographs are both interesting and satisfy my curiosity; but I also read some blogs I really enjoy which are just prose. Finally, every so often I prune or add bloggers to my list; as sometimes people stop blogging altogether.
I occasionally look at my stats and have noticed recently the numbers of views have diminished. I believe this is down to the changes in the 'Blogger' format. I know for example that Penny 'Frugal Fashion Shopper' finds it difficult to comment on my blog for some technical issues to do with 'Blogger'.
I much prefer blogging to IG where it all seems a little shallow to me so I rarely do anything on there...
Hope this helps - I would certainly miss your blog if you decided to stop!

DeleteThank you Vronni for spending time to explain how you administer your blogging activity. I’ve got to say sometimes my comments on others blogs seem to disappear into the ether, so frustrating. Blog reading is a cosy thing to do, finding time to read is a struggle and I feel guilty when I miss others’ posts. Hope I find the happy balance that you seem to have found.

I missed your blog while you were gone. I kept checking back, hoping you were okay. Glad to see you are up and running again. As for the replies to comments, we love your input and appreciate the effort, but I think you could skip the replies. Usually I will read through your blog one time and read whatever comments are there at that time only.
