Hello my sweet friends!
I'm trusting you are well.
Lately I've been rather consumed with everything other than thoughts of stylish clothes, as most of my days have been filled with some form of labour in house or garden. So yes, I feel I've been in scruffies for weeks! And thus, my blog has been devoid of even the simplest of What I've Been Wearings of late.
So in a quiet moment I thought it would be interesting to see what I have been wearing lately. It was a good little exercise as it surprised me to see that I've been getting out of my scruffier more than I realised. Nothing outfitty and I think there's only one new piece amongst this lot, but thank goodness I don't rely on the blog for income - I'd be on the dole!!
But grab yourself a cuppa and let's check out what I've been slinging on ...
Well it's been pretty much jeans, jeans and jean jacket.
Yes, the jean jacket came out for spring ... and my feet!
Worn with a Zara blouse for Easter brunch with the family.
I washed my jeans jacket yesterday. I bought it in GAP in New York, 1999, so it's 20 years old. And I can't remember washing it. EVER! It might have been as scruffy as a biker's 'original' had it not been for the many years I rarely wore it. In fact, I think I've only fallen truly in love with it since I've been hanging out with you guys, so thanks for your inspo because I'm now a jeans jacket aficionado!
Jeans, lace cami and cocoon cardi for a date night.
White cashmere cardi.
Ivory blouse, navy linen cardi, layered necklacing.
Tadaah! The new piece, an animal print tunic for Primark. Great length and it hangs well, 💘. Rat on head, model's own!
Bush on head, also model's own. This was an early morning shot before my hairdresser appointment, where I had a trim n tame.
It certainly needed taming!
Last week I was busy with Guernsey Literary Festival events and duties. But stewarding allowed me to meet this inspirational man. There is so much to say about this amazing man so I'll let Wikepedia tell you all about TERRY WAITE, HERE.
Stewarding outfits are driven by the GLF team T shirt. I seem to have picked up somewhere that black and white are "in" this season - what good timing! The cardi is about 20 years old, M&S, and I topped the lot with a pleather waterfall jacket. The weather's been sunny but with a cold wind so layering has been essential.
I liked what I'd made from my GLF graphic T starting point.
A girl's got to have a reward for her hard work eh?!
And here's the thing. The lovely ladies, @gail.hanlon and @frugalfashionshopper, had a blogger meet at the V&A exhibition of iconic 60s designs by Mary_Quant, HERE.
Penny posted a shot of a Quant raincoat on Instagram, which inspired me to hook out a pic of my Quant dupe.
Black pvc, white trim, 1967.
Penny is going to post more on the exhibition this week, so if you're a lover of Quant and her seminal designs, please check in this week, frugalfashionshopper.co.uk , HERE.
Meantime,
here's a snippet of video.
Well, I managed to have four outfit try-ons for a simple lunch date at the golf club. Yes four variations on a pair of jeans basic look. It's no wonder TP gets exasperated occasionally frequently.
I settled on the cream cardi, but only because I was running out of time!
Which would you have chosen?
We're almost done, peeps!
The ensemble on the left was an older twin version of something also worn by Annemarie of muttonstyle, HERE No collaboration. No colluding. Just twins' ESP.
The outfit on the right was a black jersey tunic thrown on for the launch reception for the GLF.
AND FINALLY!!! Yes we're nearing the end ... I bet your cuppa's cold!
I'd like a navy blazer. I have an old work suit jacket (above, Alexon) which I wear with jeans. It seems a bit big on the shoulders. So I'm deliberating. Do I save my pensioner pennies and live with the masculine cut,
or do I invest in this little ponte number?
You decide for me!!
A la perchoine,
Mary x.
Take a look at the Navy Baukjen blazer Mary. I've just got one and the cut and fit is beautiful.Or I would try TK Max and get the best quality there for a smaller price. Sounds like you have been a very lady! Oh and the Quant exhibition? I would love to view that. I'm going to the Dior one in July and I'm excited about that. You actually stay pretty stylish for casual looks I must say xx
ReplyDeleteAw thanks, Laurie. and thanks for your suggestions. The Baukjen blazer sounds delish but I don't think my pensioner's purse is deep enough and at my age CPW is a big consideration!! I'll try to get to TK Maxx when I'm on the mainland in June.
DeleteLooking forward to your Dior post.
Hugs, x.
I love the ponte navy jacket. I made a red ponte jacket recently to wear to my niece's wedding. How fun to meet Terry Waite. He has had an interesting life! I love your look with the ivory blouse and navy linen cardi and layered necklaces.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, I too am strangely drawn to the ivory/navy/necklace set time after time!I
DeleteYour red Ponte jacket sounds so wearable for so many outfits.
Hugs, x.
Yes to the ponte blazer. It would go with so much it will be worth the investment. By the way, I always admire that ivory v-neck blouse you wear. I keep trying to find one like it but no luck so far :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for pushing me towards that jacket, Jay!
DeleteYou know, the ivory blouse has been one OF my best buys EVER. Lightweight, right length, layered hemline, flattering and mixable colour. It looks good with EVERYTHING and is a suitcase staple. It's from Next from about 3-4 years ago and sadly they no longer do that style. Shame. But good luck and let me know when you find The One!
Hugs, x.
Go with the ponte! I have a MaxMara black jacket (bought for a song in a House of Fraser sale many years ago) and boy have I worn it, and will continue to wear it!
ReplyDeleteI have never had a denim jacket. I'm always looking, hoping that I can find a longer more fitted one, because the normal boxy shape doesn't suit me. But looks great on you!
Thanks for joining #WowOnWednesday (and being first out of the starting blocks....) xx
You've sold it to me!
DeleteI think the boxiness stopped me wearing the jacket for many years too. I've discovered it's about how its paired really. My suggestion is to try a fitted denim shirt. I have some examples of a bad pairing and a denim shacket coming up on Insta for you in the next few days, I'll tag you.
Hugs, x.
Rat on head? Ha ha, you are so funny. I always wear a jeans jacket in spring and summer. Well actually, yesterday I wore my winter coat!
ReplyDeleteHaha Nancy, the weather is definitely variable right now! The jeans jacket is perfect for transitional wear, so true.
DeleteHugs, x.
Loving that fact that you use your denim jacket so much. I bought one last year but...didn't wear it at all. I keep thinking about bringing it out for this summer and your blog is giving me push in that direction so, thanks! You lucky girl to have met Terry Waite; I remember his 'story' so vividly and have always thought what a strong person he must be!
ReplyDeleteYes, Dutchie, the jacket can be a slow burner so don't fret and have a Girl's World session in your bedroom to play around with it. Do you remember, you gave me my first GW and found SO many outfits from my wardrobe?!!
DeleteTerry Waite is a truly amazing person and his talks are inspiring.
Hugs, x.
Jeans, jeans, and more jeans are great on you! I am happy to see you blogging what you've been wearing. Now I am going to head over and check out what Terry Waite is all about!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs sweet friend!
xo,
Kellyann
Hope you're now clued up on Mr Waite! Love your enthusiasm for research!
DeleteThanks my sweet, I think my jeans overload is something to do with the iffy weather at this time of year.
Hugs, x.
Maybe that's why I don't love yard/garden work?? Ha ha!! But at least you have a gorgeous outdoors to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how a jean jacket can be so perfect!!!
XOOX
Jodie
Haha Jodie, I do have spending day after day in scruffy clothes but the reward is worth it, I keep telling myself! True, the jeans jacket is a wardrobe must-have, fact!
DeleteHugs, x.
I love my denim jacket! I reach for it as well all of the time! Love that yours is "vintage" ;-) and looks great on! The neutral looks are so lovely on you Mary with your hair. I love the view from that restuarant where you are drinking wine. I could stay there :-)
ReplyDeletethanks for linking!

Yes, these little jackets are just that, go-to overlays. Thanks, you and I love our neutrals eh?!!
DeleteAnd yes Jess, you CAN stay there and enjoy those views. There's a hotel next door, the Cobo Bay Hotel, which has sitting balconies right over the beach. I have family who stay there and love sitting there looking out on the sea, and having early morning walks on the beach and swims in the sea. Uplifting!!!
