Mad About Bridget’s Kitchen

Hello my lovelies!

I don’t know about you, my sweets, but I have a bit of a thing for romantic comedies. They have everything I need to whisk me away from the world’s woes. 

They always end happily and no one gets killed. Usually.

Yes, they may have the warnings “contains sex” and sometimes “bad language”, but strobe lighting is usually kept to a minimum and violence fortunately takes a holiday from the film set. 

But there are bonuses with romcoms -  we get an opportunity to look at inspiring outfits as an aside but also the biggie for me is that we get to perv homes.  Sets that look like real homes.  And sometimes those houses are absolutely suited to my style, and I come away with huge amounts of Home Inspiration.

Need I mention Something’s Gotta Give, It’s Complicated, The Holiday… ?  No I thought not!

I’m pretty sure you’re with me on these hidden perks if you’re already reading this blog.  We love looking at other people’s houses eh, but more importantly, houses that give us inspiration and give us takeaways for our own homes. 

So a romcom is usually a double whammy, you come away feeling good, but you also come away with style inspiration. And  the new Bridget Jones release Mad About The Boy is everything I could wish for. Absolutely love the film. Absolutely loved Bridge’s home.

So let’s rein in the words here and dive into the pictures!

This kitchen!

I love how the set designer has thought of those small details that make it look like a lived in kitchen.

 

I could live in it!

The fridge freezer shoved in the corner as that’s the only place for it, then over time absolutely drenched in fridge magnet, reminders of school activities, kiddie party invites, a shopping list … 

I could see myself washing up and looking through this seemingly thrown-together windowscape. 

The detail is cleverly thought through, down to the worn floorboards and a practical sisal rug under the dining area which probably don’t get spotted whilst watching but are vital to the overall feel of the room. 

Worktops cluttered with small appliances used every day

I can imagine Bridget and Mark Darcy wandering around antique and secondhand shops or markets and falling in love with this little dresser.

And that’s the genius about this stage design, it’s message in this eclectic mix is that it’s been thrown together over time by two people in love, setting up home and starting a family together, and throwing all of the stuff collected into this into this love-filled working kitchen. 

A bright sunny wall alleviates some of the dark spots prevalent in a Victorian villa, and a splash of green from the range cooker and echoed in the tiles is pure genius. In my humble opinion.

So it’s no wonder that Bridget and the kids are jumping around on the bed. They love their home and it’s a happy home that can be lived in by a family without any hint of preciousness. 

And finding Leo Woodall in your bedroom is no hardship either!
