What I've Been Wearing Lately

This post will be brief.

When I say "this post will be brief" the sighs of relief collectively can be measured on the Richter scale.  So this is a shout out to the Richter guys, no earthquake acommin' today, just a brief post from The Pout alert.

Yes it's a relief to all that I won't be rambling on incessantly today because, what can I say about my cosy suite of the last week?  Other than warm, snuggly, comfortable?

My Week in Mostly Cashmere

Monsoon wool sweaterdress, Brown accessories.
Layers* at the ready because I endure the coldness of my daytime house.  The heating is programmed to come on at 4.30pm, and that is that - this lady is not for turning, or for turning it on earlier!

The #10yearchallenge2019 on Insta was well supported and I joined in the fun, the fun being to share a 2009 photo in juxtaposition with one ten years on.
Left 2009; right 2019.  Nuff said.

Using ingenious editing wizardry I can still share my OOTD with you, despite this being a bad hair day.  The cashmere cardi is from JonesofNewYork and the scarf from The Cashmere Shop.
It's only recently dawned on me that I've collected rather a lot of cashmere over the years.  These pieces are from 2008 (Phoenix) and 2006 (London) respectively.

Yes, more cashmere and a navy/grey embellished scarf.

I decided to document the many outer layer changes through an average day.  There are three.
1.  Quilted coat for grocery shopping.
2.  Long grey East cardi for day time warmth (see above*).
3.  Brown suede waistcoat slipped under jacket for windcheater effect.

NB: the suede waistcoat has been machine washed (Yes, Terri!), along with my suede skirts.  My only caution was to wash each piece separately for fear of colour runs but none of the pieces look any lighter so I'm guessing there was none.

Indoors daytime cosiness in a long brown cardi (East) over white l/sl T.  Brown/navy version of The Cashmere Shop pompom scarf.
I wore my distressed jeans (loving 'em) tucked in my old Gabor brown boots.  Perhaps this is passe now but this was warm and cosy so do I care?!   Are you still tucking in?

Then more layers.
1.  Camel car-coat (threw that in as it sounds so early 1960s eh?!).
2.  Leoprint furry snuggles of hat and collar.
3.   Long brown cardi changed for thigh version (cashmere merino, Woolovers) to fit under 3/4 length coat to go for walk.

And that is it, my week in wool, of which mostly cashmere.  If you are in the northern hemisphere, I'm guesing most of you will be reaching for a woolly most days right now.  Am I right?
With the exception of my lucky sista KELLYANN in sizzlin' hot Florida of course, who goes jumper-crazy on the few rare chilly days Floridians get in winter!

A la perchoine,
Mary x.

  1. Wow you do have a lot of cashmere, Mary, and it all looks lovely on you. I loved that East sweater dress and the lovely thick cardi, especially.

You are good not turning your heating on; I usually cave in about 3 pm and turn it on where it stays in until about 10 pm. We light our stove about 6 to 6.30 pm, most evenings too!

Stay warm and enjoy the rest of the week!

    1. Yes, I think you mentioned the cashmere before and now that I'm posting my everyday outfits (like you) I realise just how much I have! But as in the example above, the pieces are mostly bought in sales - the duck egg cardi was in a sale at £17 in 2008 and I was amazed at the price (perhaps Arizona is too hot for cashmere!).

You'll like this: when I was still working and TP was already retired he phoned me up at work saying "the house is really cold", expecting me to face in. My response? "Put some gloves on" !! But I do cave in when it's REALLY cold and this time of year I light a fire by 5pm.

You stay warm too sweetie, hugs x.

  2. I've been searching for a good knitted dress and never thought of Monsoon. I will check them out. I have to say Mary you look way better than you did ten years ago! I sadly do not have one photo of myself from ten years ago. I would have loved to have taken part in the challenge too. I had a no.4 crop ten years ago! xx

    1. Oh Laurie, thank you.
A crop ?! Your luscious curls you have now are your trademark! I'd love to have seen a photo of your crop!

Monsoon for sweater dresses, YES! I bought this one and a creamy winter white about 5-6 years ago and they had so many to choose from. And they seem to stock them every winter and they're all gorgeous. Give Monsoon a try, defo.

      Hugs my lovely, x.

  3. Hee hee hee!!! I do go crazy over sweater weather since it's so rare. I have to strategically plan what I wear so I can fit it all in before the weather ends! Funny, I don't own any cashmere! How can that be? I feel like I need some in my life.
So you look better ten years later, what is your secret my friend? Has TP built you a time machine you haven't shared yet? If that's the case I am coming for a visit - forget the cruise, I'm stayingin Guernsey!
    Hugs sweet sista!

    1. Haha 😂 .
You know. I picked up that robin egg cardi for £17 in Macy’s sale in Phoenix in 2008 - I’m guessing you can pick up cashmere bargains in the hotter states.
🥰 Thanks. Secret? Having lovely friends like you, sista! I don’t think TP will have any objections to you staying here 😉!
      Hugs, x.

    1. 🥰 Thanks, Jill, I bought both colourways of that scarf back in 2006 because I loved them both, and I still do!
No snow here yet, maybe you’ve had some but anyways you keep snug too. Hugs, x.

    1. Thanks Lise. I’m so pleased others are still tucking in their jeans as it’s a warmer and easier option. You’re probably getting snow in Bulgaria so keep snug, x.

    1. You are very kind, Nancy, thank you. But the photos do show how we change over a ten year period, eh? I don't think you did the challenge, but a lot of us struggled to find full face photos from that time.
      Hugs, x.

    1. Thank you Ada, no matter what the results it was a fun and learning thing to do eh . You’re so right about the weather and I think we’ll be layering for another month or two 🙁.

  9. "Car coats" always makes me smile because why did we need special coats for the car? But we all had green khaki car coats, the same, in my family for the regular Sunday outing in the car. Cashmere, now there's one of my life's pleasures. It lasts for years if you treat it right. Sadly a lot of today's cashmere is nowhere near as good as the quality of what we bought 10 years ago, but in real terms the prices are lower.

    1. Yes it's such a retro item of clothing but I have to say I find long winter costs a tad inhibiting when driving. You're right about the cashmere, I guess. I tend to look out for the sales bargains. I think the only one I paid top dollar for was my first from The Cashmere Shop in 2006.
      Keep warm, keep cosy, x.

  11. You know I love that sweater dress on you Mary! So becoming and the scarf is the perfect accessory. I love your silvery hair, it is so attractive on you ( seeing you blonde and silver) I would go that route if it didn't wash me out. Love your cozy layers!

    1. Thanks so much Jess and you look gorgeous in your sweater dresses.
Well firstly, you are far too young to have silver hair but when you get there, magically your skin adjusts to compensate and you don't look washed out - how clever is our designer?!!!
But when you do get to that stage ... well, I ended up with brown at the back and ends and silver swathes at the sides. The result on pics is often a blonde mix which means my colour changes from day to day. Needless to say, I recommend it as it's exciting to discover what your hair wants to do left to its own devices!
      Hugs my lovely, x.
