What I've Been Wearing Lately

Hello, my lovelies.
Are you busy decking your halls with boughs of holly?
Is December busy enough for you?
It's a little too busy for me, that's for sure.  I'm pretty much there with pressies and cards, the tree's a work in progress and the busyness is down to me decking the Pout halls, reorganizing stuff and painting bits and bobs around the house.
How are your Christmas plans going?  I hope you're not as silly as me, taking on painting jobs in December, who needs that on top of everything else?!

Amazingly (for me) I've still managed to get out of those dreaded leggings and scruffy T in recent weeks, so here's a round-up of what I've been wearing lately.

But before I start up today, a question.  Do you get notification of my replies to your comments or am I just replying to big void that is the ether?!  I'd love to hear from you in this, cos I spend a lot of time chatting away to you when you comment!!!

Cashmere cardi (Madeleine), long sleeved modal T (The White Company), skinnies (M&S), heeled boots (Gabor).

Coatigan (Zara).

Denim jacket (Gap), plaid shirt (Primark), coated jeans (Next), heeled boots (Jones).

Top and shawl (Next), jeans (Primark), flat boots (Pikolinos).

Cashmere merino cardi (Woolovers), silk scarf (The Rack), long sleeved T (The White Company), skinnies (M&S), suede boots (Debenhams).

Cashmere mix jumper (Next), silk scarf (charitied), coated jeans (Next), knee boots (Gabor).
Larger size (that looked like a potato sack) returned.  Size down a couple of sizing if going for this jumper.

Cardi (Peacocks), floral dress (East), knee boots (M&S).
Nice to wear a dress for once.

Zara chunky cardi, v. old.
I'm looking for ideas on how to wear this, any suggestions?

Ruffles jumper (Kaliko), velvet loose trousers (East).
The jumper has been sleeping in my wardrobe for 15+ years yet this was the first time I've worn it.  Suddenly the ruffles and the sparkly trim seemed "now".  I'm calling this approach SLEEPER FASHION, (find out more about it HERE).

Raincoat, hat, skinnie, twinset (M&S), scarf (Zara), heeled boots (Gabor).
🎵 I beg your pardon ... there's got to be a little rain sometimes 🎶

Cashmere mix jumper and hat (Next), scarf (shop in Lyndhurst), skinnies (M&S), heeled boots(Gabor).
I wore this to bring the potted tree in from the garden and drape it with a few fairy lights.  Then I took a break from tree decoration to go out for a turkey dinner.

Then returned to drape tree with a strand of pearls. They're just real, of course *!

Clearer pic of funnel neckline of jumper.
And clearer pic of work in progress potted tree, now on its third Christmas.  Thinking this may be it's last indoors as it seems to bleach with the sun, guess it really belongs in a dark forest.

V-back version of Next cashmere mix (size down just one size with this style).
Oatmeal seems to be THE must-wear colour for decorating the tree this year.

Tree, still a work in progress as discovered I'm short of a box of glass baubles which we must have missed on our recent loft trip.
So, I stopped work and went out for a turkey dinner.

Are you spotting a trend here?  Who knew that decorating a Christmas tree could be so fattening?!

So that's what I've been wearing (and eating!) lately.
I expect you've been rigged up in smarter attire as you enjoy the round of December parties, dinners and all things Christmassy.  Am I right?

From what I see here today, this pensioner's life isn't the mad social whirl that you're probably experiencing right now.
Perhaps I just need to put on a few cocktail dresses and tell you I'm looking tired because of my wall to wall Xmas partying, when the truth is this month I'm just painting walls!

* String of Pearls, they're just real, of course.

A la perchoine,
Mary.

  1. What a feast of outfits (and Turkey dinners). Your signature style is undoubtedly the neutral jumper and how marvellously you dress them up! And loving the East dress and long cardi. My festive season has been a disaster so far. I've been doing so much travelling I missed two Christmas events. I haven't had one Christmas dinner yet! And I only put up the "pop up" tree rather than the "big tree."

    1. Haha, Gail, I'm notching up those turkey dinners! I am excited I have a signature look and one that I love too! Yes, you've been whizzing across the pond, at least you had a quick fix tree up your sleeve. Perhaps Mr Mutton will welcome me you home with a fold out by fairy lights!! Hope you can catch up on the festivities soon.
      Hugs, x.

    1. Thank you, sweet sista, haha, you're so funny !
I loved The Glenn Miller story, especially the bit with the pearls; probably didn't happen IRL but I don't care.
I had a real DUH awakening, I've religiously given great thought to my replies for three years and potentially only a few have been read! Ouch, that hurts!!!
Lots of hugs coming backatcha, especially from your #1 !!
Hugs to you and Brian, x.

  3. Looking lovely as ever! Isn't it unfair to have so many social events 'stuffed' into just 31 days? My suggestion for the Zara chunky fur cardi is to keep it casual. White shirt underneath (not tucked in), comfy jeans and boots. Finish it off with a chunky brown necklace. I love your pink hat and scarf also!

    1. Yes, December is a real bottle neck of a month. Thanks for the ideas, don't think I've done casual with it before so am excited to try that out. And I have just the brown chunky necklace to finish it off!!!
Take care on your travels, x.

  4. I love the floral dress and the way you have styled it. Also that peachy twinset with the animal print scarf - so good together. You are looking very slim and trim and healthy. I agree with La Duchesse on the styling of the chunky cardi - her ideas are great. Nothing too posh here on the Black Sea, but a couple of fun nights so far with hot and spicy red wine at our local. 5. Impressed with how you dress so nicely for decorating duty. I like all your looks. I do not get notified, but I usually check back, because I don't want to miss any of your pithy remarks. :-) I see that there is a box to check which says notify me, so maybe I will try that.Keep up the good looks!
PS just saw that if I check notify me, it will go to my gmail address, which I never use. Oh, well, I will just keep coming back. For sure. :-)

    1. Oh Susan, when I'm decorating the look is not good!!! Aww, so funny with the pithy remarks, but it is an issue because I like replying and I'm feeling now they go mostly unread and I have wasted so time these last three years! Like you, I can't even figure how to open my gmail account. I'm scratching my head in this reply thing ...

  7. I don't get any notification of your responses to my comment blog but don't you have to choose to do that as a commenter? I try to respond to all comments made on my blog and I try to extend the same courtesy to people who have commented on my comment on their blog! You're very good at doing this but not all bloggers are. I appreciate some of them get many, many comments but commenting is a two way process. I've stopped following blogs becuase of lack of reciprocal comments.

AS for what you've been wearing you are looking very glam! Such lovely snuggly jumpers, cardigans and some fab scarves. I loved your East dress and it's nice to wear a dress. I find them so easy to wear - less accessories needed!

It was quite difficult to see the very fluffy top - it looked like it had big sleeves. Any chance of another peek?

  9. Christmas has certainly arrived at the 'Pouting Pensioners' home. Looking very festive.
Such a lot of different looks here and I admit to being envious of you in the pink hat as I would love to wear one but look so silly, (goodness knows how my wedding hat shopping will go).
I get replies but sometimes find I want to reply back and am unable to access again.
    Hope this helps.

    1. Thanks, Jill, I have more to do but all I want to do is sit by the fire!
There's a hat for you out there, don't give up. Perhaps you're just not used to wearing them so you feel uncomfortable - maybe "training" with some woolly hats in winter could help ...? I think you're going to be MotB eh, so give hats training a go to acclimatise.

    1. I certainly used to be. These days I don't work the room so the party doesn't feel like a proper partaaaay. Anyway, I'm now home drinking cocoa at the time I would have been thinking to leave home to go to the party, BITS !!

  12. I can't get over the fact that you're finding time to decorate now! Oh to have the life of a pensioner Mary. Lots of lovely casual outfits here, but I have to agree with Nancy about the dress - it's fab and clearly needs to be taken out for many Christmas dinners this week! Wish me luck with all my last minute card writing!

    1. The thing is I DON'T have the time, Anna! I write these lists and timetables wearing my rosiest of glasses and when they come off I'm completed overwhelmed! Life gets in the way. But midnight last night I wrote myself a disaster recovery plan so let's see if this helps cos I'm feeling fraught! AND I'm not totally happy with the colour slapped on the chimney breast!!!
Good luck with your cards, I'm imagining a very cosy Christmas in the Parkes household.
      Hyggelig hugs, x.

I love everything that GM did, and I love 40s style and that's why I rave more than a little when some of your outfits have a 40s vibe. Love your style.
Yes, retirement life is busy too and I'm barely managing one post a week currently!

Thanks, sweet twin, that East dress has proved popular worn with berry, convincing me it needs another festive airing over Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you and John and all the merry mutton gang, love, x.
