The Last Dress of Summer

Hello my darling peeps.  Hope you are well and hurricane-free.

A few days ago I squeezed in possibly my last summer dress of summer.  Sad, weepy face.

For Sunday lunch I wore my Roman Originals dress for the first time.
I think I'm in a state of panic.  The seasons switched from summer to autumn so abruptly that I didn't quite enjoy all the summeriness I had planned.
So many dresses, unworn.  Thus every time we get a sunny day, I sling on something summery.  And this was a summery day.

I like this Roman Originals dress.  It's pretty, the fabric hangs well and it's lined.
It's a slip over the head and walk out the door jobbie.
I added my Adesso heels and a little bag I picked up recently in Primani.  It's roomy whilst still neat and it goes so well with my fave summer shoes.  (I'm a matchy gal.)

I mentioned summer weather but hey, it's September, so a girl needs a cardi.  Woolovers.

Good to go.  Before the weather changes!

We sauntered down to the nearby beachside restaurant.

Nice views from our table.  They always seem to give us a window table.  Not complaining!

The Photographer fancied a posh meal so we came here.  These past couple of weeks have been a major headache (long story) and he needed to get away from it all for an hour or two.

So we tucked into some nice fresh, summery food.

We sipped wine and sat back and enjoyed the view.  And chatted.  It's funny how sometimes one can clear the mind of all other matters and focus on what needs to be discussed, away from home. Do you sometimes need to take a few hours distancing yourself from troubling matters, in order to talk them through more clearly?

I think that may just have been my last chance at a summer dress this year though.

The upside of summer's fleeting is this, harvesting the summer's garden fruits.  Here, little peaches and big pears.

And I didn't forget I set you a little puzzle a few posts ago.  Here's the solution.

Move one side of the glass to opposite side, at a right angle, then move the "bottom" of the glass to form a new bottom for the new turned-over glass.  Hope you worked it out.  Me and my cruise mates didn't!   And if you didn't work it out for yourself, you won't from my 'solution' - it reads as total gobbledygook!

Have you tried any Roman Originals dresses?
And have you worn your last dress of summer yet, ladies?

A la perchoine.

  1. At first glance I thought this dress had some fancy side bustle thingy going on, but it was just that the sofa and cushion are in the same colours as the dress. Could have been a real fashion statment eh? The dress is very chic; simple in style but a lovely colourway too. And yes, the cardi is de rigeur at this time of year. I'm half-way through my summer/winter changeover and have stopped in my tracks as the Indian summer has arrived - but for how long I wonder?
Taking time away from home really does you the world of good, I agree. We find that sitting on a quiet beach seems like a holiday enough to induce calm and distance from the worries fo the day.
Looking forward to meeting you soon Mary!

    Have a good week!

  2. I thought the same thing, until I realized about the white couch. The dress is quite nice though. Very pretty colors. I'm squeezing in some more summer clothing still, but I'm off to Hawaii tomorrow to wear it. Yes, I know, you're feeling very sorry for me. :D

    1. Hi Anne. I don't think we've met before, so welcome! Looks like you're going to be able to stretch out your summer looks a while long, Hawaii eh?! I don't think there is one reader out there who wouldn't fancy a holiday in Hawaii! Lucky you.

  3. Such a pretty dress! I too am not quite mentally finished with my summer clothes, but have decided to move on, and have moved my beloved white pants to their winter home. I don't garden, but love seeing what you do in that regard. How nice to have fruit right outside your door.

    1. Thank you so much, sweet Susan. I'm eking out the white jeans and using them for golf whilst the sun is still shining. Good luck with your season switch!
A garden does require a lot of work, but when I go out with my go out picking fruit with the grandchildren, it makes all the effort worthwhile.
      Hugs, x.

Yes we walk or go for a drink and find ourselves reinventing life. TP is looking like he's holding up.or are you holding him up?

    1. My RO buys have been on the posh side so far, and they are good at that. Nice to hear how you take yourself out of the house to think things through.
TP is doing well, thanks for mentioning it, and fortunately requires no holding up!

  5. Lovely summer dress and good for you to take the opportunity of the last of the summer days. Yes, its always good to get away even for a few hours to distance oneself from the irritations of the day and to put things in perspective.

Lovely views from your lunch table. What an uplift to the spirits that must have been.

You're the only blogger I know who grows peaches - how very exotic!

    1. Oooh Vronni, feeling flattered! Thanks so much.
Aren't my peaches cute? We've had some good fruit crops this year and the grandkiddies love taking baskets out there to see what's ready to pick each week. My freezer is groaning!

Think that may be the first and last outing for the dress in 2017 ... unless I take it to Florida!
And you would love a few days here too ... just not in December!

    1. Hi Emma, and welcome. Yes, the RO cuts are very clever, just a few tucks make the world of difference. Yes, summer ending takes us by surprise, even though it happens every single year. You'd think by now we'd have learned to bombard our bodies with daily dresses through the whole of July and August! Hugs, x.
