When All You Need Is A Nude Shoe

It was a day that started well.

A savoury croissant and coffee under the pergola.
PJs.  Warm sunny weather.  No rush.  So peaceful.

Plenty time to check out how the wisteria is winding itself around the dead grape vine.

No sign of grape clusters inside this corner of the pergola.  Don't know why.

Plenty time to take a sneaky shot of the teddy I've had since I was 18.

Allow me to introduce you to Mr Tipper Truck.

Then with nothing more pressing on the agenda than to meet up with a girl friend later, I had time to put together a steal - they are such fun, I love the challenge.

I had a plan and I showed The Photographer a pic of something I'd found on Pinterest which I thought would be just perfect for my date.

A smile appeared on TPs face when he saw the pic.  I think he liked the outfit.  A lot!

The outfit was basically a summer LBD.  I do like an LBD.  I like to have LBDs for all seasons.

I like wearing this dress with a chunky two tone metal necklace.

I used to pair this Next linen LBD with black shoes.  Always.

But for me the twist was nude shoes with the LBD so I paired the dress with nudes, just like my Pinterest lady.
It made me realise that there are times when all an outfit needs is a nude shoe, allowing the dress to remain the main event.

I have to say the Jones nudes do lengthen my legs - and I need lots of that!  But sadly mine weren't lengthened as long as the model's. I think TP was a tad disappointed.

So let's move on - the Tula bag was as close as I could get to the model's clutch.  And I thought I looked just fine.

But I really must stop showing TP these Pinterest steal pics.  I feel his disappointment when he realises that the IRL body doesn't quite match up to the model's ... so perhaps the day didn't quite end according to plan!

So ladies, do you like pairing a black outfit with nudes?

A la perchoine.

  1. You look so pretty in this dress and I love the nude shoes with it. I need to get a LBD for the summer and some pretty nude sandals. Thanks for this inspiration.

    1. Hi Janet and welcome to my blog. I really do recommend this look. You'll get plenty of use out of a summer linen LBD in California. I'm so pleased I tried it with the nudes, for the reasons as above and also because it felt up to date and a tad fashionista!!
Hope you pop back again soon, x.

    1. Hi and welcome, Lizer Pearl (gorgeous name). So you wear nudes with black, maybe with jeans and trousers too? I'm a late arriver at this party!
      Let's speak again soon, x.

  3. Love the nude shoe with the dress. I have a Next summer LBD. It arrived after waiting for stock for 3 months. I don't have nude shoes. I need just need some now. Short of nude I'd use metallic which wouldn't look as good.

    1. Well done persevering with Next, that was a long wait but it's reassuring that they do restock eventually. Longing to see it! Do you remember, I found these heeled nude loafers when hooking out loafer flatties like yours, months ago, so my thanks to you for helping me rediscover these aged nudes!

  4. Lovely look on you, PP! I have not worn a nude shoe as I find that most nudes turn yellowish on my fair skin-a color I never wear-and I understand that the goal is to match your skin and shoe color for longer legs....is that still true? Did you have to search through many nudes to find the ones you wear? They look perfect! I am 5'9" and creating a leggy, long, and lean look is a style goal for me, even if the scales and my curves don't approach "lean" anymore!! Thanks for another fun post -have a great day in your part of the world!

    1. Thanks, Jules, these nudes are 15 years old and bought at a time when they were just light coloured summer shoes, so no searching required. There was no science about skin matching back then!
Just checked the photos, mine don't match skin 100%. My view on the lengthening effect is that wearing a skin tone shoe, not necessarily your own skin tone, lengthens because the line still continues to the toe. Nude is a non-colour so t foot looks like part of your leg. Non-nude footwear creates a full-stop effect so the leg ends abruptly and takes the focus higher up the leg rather than eke-ing out the length, so the eye follows right down to the tootsies giving the leg a good extra six inches plus. Does that sound plausible?
So my view is just go for any skin colour shoe ... and enjoy being tall, lucky you!!

    2. Thanks for the input! I am going to be on the hunt for the shoes now-won't my hubby be excited about that!!! Alas, I do have a shoe thing....remember that scene from Sex and the City when Sarah Jessica Parker sees a shoe on display and says "hello lover...." ? It's kinda like that! Have a great day!!

    1. Hi Polly, well this post is proving interesting. Bloggers had me believing that everyone has nudes but reading what you lovely ladies have to say, that is not the case!
Oh yes, was longing to hear how your consultation went. Don't worry, I've lost half an inch in recent years. Think it's gone from my legs :-(.
I've found that boot-legs shorten my already short legs, but I expect our bodies spread across our frames in different ways and you may have proportionately long legs.
Before you rush out to buy new, I would suggest you have a play with shapes with what you have in your wardrobe (ignoring colour and vintage) and if you don't have all her suggested items, try hitting the charity shops with a list ... And stick to it! It's all about checking out her ideas before making any big spends.
Let us know how it goes, eh?!

    1. I think it's wise to play around with what you have to hand and consider how outfits fit with your lifestyle, in order to spend pensioner pounds wisely. A year or two ago I liked jackets I was seeing and swooped; I rarely have occasion to use them, I don't live that life now. Good luck!

  8. This outfit looks great on you and very current with the nude shoes. How fortunate you were to find a pair lurking in your closet. Love that pergola space. How I wish I had something similar to sit under in the heat.

    1. Hi Christy, thanks, this little cottage is bursting at the seams in order to hoard my little treasures!
The vine used to cling to an old shed and when I took that down I had to think up a big climbing frame for it and this pergola was born. It's a great extra dining space.

  10. I wouldn't blame your body for the difference in effect. The dress in the picture is much shorter than yours. I'm guessing the shoes are much higher heeled than yours, too. The dress in the picture has a much deeper neckline, and it's V-shaped. All these qualities make the body look leggier and slimmer. I'm not saying you should change anything about your outfit. Just don't blame your body!

    1. Oh A (sorry, don't have your name), I love that you've put time into such thoughtful analysis! That's what I should have done. I expect what I also should be doing is not trying to copy outfits worn by young leggy models!!!
I really appreciated receiving your comment which has brought a smile to my face, hope you pop by again soon.

  11. Oh that LBD looks darling on you! I love it with the nude shoes! That croissant looks so good! I can't remember the last time I had a croissant. They use to be all the rage years ago, now they've drifted from popularity when gluten-free emerged.

    1. Thanks, sweet Amy, it's difficult to get good texture with gluten free. Gluten free is available over here as an option, sounds like it's pushed gluten products aside where you are? Talking of croissants puts me in mind of It's Complicated, love that film!
