Operation Clean House

G'day to you, my lovely readers.

Oh, please let me thrill you today with my tales of domesticity!
I've been busy autumn-cleaning, a sort of systematic deep cleansing of areas of the house that need (are begging for) attention.

It all started a few weeks ago and it's been a "butterfly flapping wings in the rain forest ..." sort of journey.  I was searching for photos for Son's 40th Birthday party.   That's the "butterfly wings" bit.  I charged headlong into the task by scooping my photo album stash off the shelves and spreading them in piles on a nearby bed.

Having the albums spread out inspired me to scan other old photos.  And print them.  So, all of that involved some serious computer work and a trip to Jessops.

Oh dear, the albums and the shelving needed some vigorous vacuuming and wiping.
And maybe this was time to think-out an alternative place to store photo albums.
Indeed, that whole exercise kept me off the streets for a few days!

Then I looked at the bedroom where the albums were being temporarily stored.  It needed a deep-cleanse. Oh goodey, thought The Photographer, the house is going to be cleaned - and we're not even expecting guests!

A blind needed installing so The Photographer was given that task.  (Operation Clean House isn't feeling quite so much fun now, eh Photographer?!)
And oh yes, there's the sticking window issue that needs fixing whilst you're at it ...

Then I started looking critically at other rooms in the house.  And that is where I am now, dear reader. For the downstairs bedroom's smallest nooks and crannies are currently under attack. Including every drawer and cubby-hole in the room's Lebus roll-top desk - each has been purged, wiped, beeswaxed, reorganised.

Cleaning one of these is no mean feat.  Here's a smart one, gleaming.

And here's mine.  Think it needs even more polishing to get to it's smart relative's standard!

But there is a downside to all of this long-overdue zealous domesticity, as The Photographer feared.  My mind is a-buzzin' with ideas on how to change things.  Maybe change back to how they were 15 years ago when I first moved in, so full-circle.  What can I say - I like change!

Though the biggest change ahead stems from what I discovered when that butterfly started fluttering its wings.  I'll save that for another post.

And that's the tornado created by the butterfly!   You can just imagine how much this is pleasing The Photographer.  So he actually viewed a Waitrose shop as a welcome break from the current turmoil.

My Waitrose shopping attire.  Black top a pressie from Dutchie, grey Peacock jeans, Clarks metal-toe flatties.  Look lifted with a beautiful silk hand-painted scarf in greys/black/pink - a treasured give-away from the lovely Janice of The Vivienne Files.

I'd love to hear how you approach housework.
Love it or hate it?
Rolling programme  or irregular attacks on the house, like me?
And do you like change?  Seeing your home with fresh eyes and wanting to make changes?  Lots of them?

A la perchoine.

  4. I delegate to fairies. It works in my head. Although I did find a kitchen fairy reorganised and cleaned whilst we were away at the weekend. Lucky you getting that giveaway. Very precious.
