I'm Still Standen

I'm still Standen after all these years ...
Well, Elton would think it rude of me to pass up on this paraphrasing opportunity!

Recently I visited Standen House, East Grinstead here.

It's an arts and crafts family home styled with
Morris" interiors. It is still 'standen' after all this time, 124 years in fact.  It was built by James Beale, a solicitor who specialised in railways, and it was the family weekend retreat.
Being a solicitor and also specialising in a embryonic industry is evidently the way to go!

It was maintained for weekend use by 14 servants!

I adored this dining room, designed for family and weekend guests.

A foodwarmer of the period.  Such clean lines.

Looking like I don't want to be disturbed!

The kitchen is laid out as it would have been at the time.

This oven would have seen a lot of action at weekends!

The original woodwork is well-maintained.
Hmmmm, someone's busy with her iPad.

Beautiful old and new needlework is displayed.

This typewriter takes me back ...!

Walls next to the kitchen used how we would use chalkboards today.

The barn cafe has been sympathetically renovated.

Oh goodie,  jacket potatoes are on the menu!
The rosewater lemonade was glorious.

Thanks for joining me at this atmospheric National Trust property.  Let's have another outing soon!

A La perchoine.
