Winteryfying Summer

Hi my dears.  How was your Halloween?
I was visited by some pretty scary characters!  They deserved a good rummage in my treats stash.

A few posts ago I wore a coral top, here, and from your comments I was reminded that I am not just a One Coral Top Wonder, that I have a similar coloured top that I wore during the summer months.  Thank you for reminding me, my darling reader Laurie, for when deliberating on what to wear for my Girlie Cuz meet-up, up popped the idea of taking that summer top here and wintryfying it.

And I expect this is what this trans-seasonal dressing thing is all about. Taking winter clothes and de-layering them in spring. Taking summer clothes and making them somehow a bit warmer in autumn.

So that is what I did.

My summer Peacock coral top with Rita black jeans and Clarks snakeskin textured courts (word blanked out as some of you have a thing about that reptile); an old but still-loved East necklace to link in the black.

Then I layered on the Primani with scarf and biker jacket.

And thus, my summer top that I had hereto thought belonged exclusively to white jeans, I now find works with black bottoms and a light scarf and jacket.  Intensifying the colours around the top transforms it from summer through to winter.  Season switching really is that simple.

I can see this random summer buy as being something I can wear pretty much all year round, merely switching darker and lighter colours on the bottom half and following through with similar footwear, and layering.

I can see it with stone coloured ankle trousers next spring.  (Won't that colour combo be gorgeous?!)
Yes, I'm starting to see quite a few possibilities for this style of top and this colour.
A coral fluted top is not just for summer.

Do you have items in your wardrobe that you bought for one specific season then magically you discover, with a bit of experimentation, that they actually work all year round?  I bet you're much better at this stuff than me.  Why am I always one of the last to get the memo?!!

But oh my darlings, I'm not a big fan of clocks-back time.  Just look out the window.  It's pitch black and it's only 6pm.  Ugghhh.  And the dark makes it somehow colder than it was on summer time just a couple of days ago.

Now, to take your mind off the scary wintry scene outside my window (and the scary sight of me on your screens!), I'll leave you with a shot of my glittery pink/brown nails.  Again!  Yes, you could say I've become a little bit obsessed with them.  If friends don't mention them within a few minutes of meeting, I can't hold back and just have to point their eyes in the direction of my sparkly fingertips.
I am a girl possessed!

Queue the scary music ...

A la perchoine.

  2. I've learnt to only pack away the very lightest of summer clothing and to layer up the remaining stuff for autumn and winter...xxx

    1. Hi Vronni, sounds like you're one savvy lady who learned from experience. Packing away is always a chore so the less you do, the better eh?!
Have a nice week, hugs, x.
p.s. I'm TRYING to remember to enlargen some of the photos but they load on to my blog in the size that you don't like and I've not got into the habit o bigging up yet. Bear with me, please.

  5. Possessed in the very best way my friend! I am loving you in coral and that biker jacket is super cool on you sista! You wear it well you little hottie! I'd say coral is your color my dear, you wear it so well. Those nails? Oh my, love them. Mine look like a Halloween scare that needs to be over already. And actually my house looks pretty scary too - such an unbelievable construction zone - I wouldn't be surprised at all if a ghost appeared or some scary skeleton got dug up. Well enough of me and my flair for the dramatic. You are lovely my friend and that coral really suits you - even though I essentially have one season to dress for I am a huge fan of tweaking (our word!) a piece here or there and wearing it all year long!
Hugs my friend, make it a great one (you always do)!
    xo,

    1. Oh you with your little hottie and Andrea with her sizzlin', you do realise this coral top will be a repeat offender for months to come? What have you two done to me?!!!
OK, there may be a hint of melodrama around your reno, but a few years ago I stretched up and out in three directions and lived here with the mess for months and months, so I think we are allowed to come over a bit drama queen towards the end of it all. And end you will surely be reaching Holding my breath for Friday's reno shots!
So have a nice week but get clicking that camera ...
      Hugs, x.

  7. It's good to layer up. I do this throughout Winter too. I still love that colour on you Mary! Oh and yes I hate the dark nights too. I swear I suffer from S.A.D I count the days now or from the shortest day to it getting lighter in the evenings xx

    1. Thanks so much, sweet Laurie, this piece of coral is definitely a keeper. Oh you and me both with this S.A.D. malarkey, I found myself counting the days to the shortest day yesterday (46). Cosy doesn't work for me like it used to, I am now someone who needs early mornings, late evenings and lots of outside in between. We'll have to chivvy each other through these next few months!
Have a good week, hugs x.

  8. The top is gorgeous! I love the color, and yes, I think it works great in fall too! I do have tops that are meant for one season but I use them others. If the color works, I just layer!

    1. Hi Amy, thanks so much an, taking your lead, I just need to find myself a lovely autumnal tree to accessorise with! I am on the path to layering enlightenment - it's a long path, that's for sure. I'll be peeking over on your blog to pick up winter layering tips.
Wishing you a super week, hugs x.

    1. Thanks so much, Jennie. Yes, I'm pleased the body is long and the sleeves are shorter, so may tops of this type are the opposite - shorter is awful on my body and longer flowy sleeves are totally impractical.
Wishing you a fabulous week, hugs x.

  10. It very much helps with the new trend of wearing spring colours in the autumn and winter. Love the colour on you and definitely an all year rounder.

    1. Oh Anna, there's another trend that I've been oblivious to. I need you, my savvy friend, to bring me into AW17! I'm going to have to train myself into not designating things summer or winter only, it's a mindset thing. Thanks for your kindness. Hope you're having a nice week, catch up in a few days? Hugs, x.
