The Pumpkin As An Accessory?!

The pumpkin.  Autumn is the time to celebrate this humble vegetable and do glorious things with it which go beyond the realms of our British imaginations.   Right now I am reading of pumpkin spice, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin body lotions and ... pumpkin martinis, which taste surprisingly good, so I'm told.
Yes, pumpkin fever has hit the blogisphere.

As a nation, we Brits tend to be quite conservative with vegetables in general and pumpkins specifically.  We can barely get our heads around scooping out the pumpkin's innards, popping that in a soup then gouging facial features out of the carcase and calling it a candle holder.
So I decided to fly the flag and try a bit of pumpkin innovation myself.  I see further possibilities for this most voluminous of vegetables.  Why stop at cocktails and body products?
I see it as the perfect accessory.  After all, others accessorise with hoovers, roller blades and Sainsburys carrier bags (you know who you are!) so why not a pumpkin?

A few days ago we visited a farm shop.  So, what did I wear?  I wore grey.  Only grey.

Grey patterned top (Next), grey jeans (Peacocks) ... and grey boots.

Yup, these babies are new.  I sneaked out a-shoppin' whilst The Photographer was playing golf and found these in Debenhams.  I lucked out on a day when the store was offering a huge discount on boots.  I'd been looking out for grey boots for some time and when I saw the deal, I pounced.
Lucky ole me eh?

The fact is that these boots have a high heel and my legs appear longer. IMHO.  And I desperately need extra length to my stumpiest of pins which usually appear to be short appendages bridging body and footwear.  The trompe l'oeil of these boots is that I appear to have legs!

I'd thought to go out in just a cardi (grey), but the weather had other plans on how to style The Pout.

The weather decided that  it would follow my outfit cue - it was grey.  A warmer layer was required - grey, of course.

So the day being grey was the perfect final accessory for my monochrome look.  Oh, and a cross-body being the final final accessory.

Then at the farm shop, I thought maybe I could use a pumpkin as my final final final accessory, but it was orange  and lacked my chosen monochromicity.

Now, I had always believed that with pumpkins, similar to Fords and black, you could have any colour you wanted, provided it was orange.  But a revelation awaited me in the vegetable stalls.

Pumpkins apparently come in grey too, here a light grey to match the light greyness of my outfit. How fortuitous.  The ultimate grey accessory.

And they even come in a darker shade of grey to match my jeans.

Oh, which to choose?

The greys stopped there.  It seems there are not 50 Shades of Grey in the pumpkin world.  I counted two.  Two doth not a best selling book nor a film make, but two was sufficient for the purpose of the monochromaciouness of my outfit.

Yes, you can accessorise an outfit with a pumpkin, dear fellow fashionistas.  Slice it mid-section, gouge out the pumpkin's top half and call it a beret, is my humble fashion tip for today.

To break the monochrome rut paradise I had found myself in, I had my nails gelled glittery soft pink.  Here seen against my laptop keyboard, which is grey, of course.

A la perchoine.

  2. Love those grey boots. How lucky you were to hit the shops on the right day. Your pumpkin accessory is hilarious but you never know a pumpkin beret might catch on!

    1. Hi Christy, so glad you like my bargain boots, £27!
I wimped out with the beret innovation and wore a regular beret in the next post, probably less smelly!!!
      Hugs, x.

  3. Yep, you've definitely got those long limbs called legs, sweetie! Although I kinda thought you had those on the days we met too. Love the boots, and think that grey is pretty cool, even with your weird pumpkin accessories, hahaha!

Hope all's going smoothly for you.

    1. Hi Anna,
Thanks for noticing that I had legs when we met! And yes, we did use them rather a lot, what fun that was. Life is yin and yang; you do the colour, I do the grey - symbiosis in blogland!
Hope you're having a nice time in London; wishing you a happy meet at the weekend, so sorry I can't make it, hugs, x.

  4. Love those boots my friend, your legs are super in them! Good for you for sneaking off to snag them on sale. Boy do they look terrific with your shades of grey outfit. Love the 50 Shades reference but for reference I despised the books and only could stomach a few moments of the movie. Ewwww, bad writing, bad acting. Anyhow, I am loving all the fresh pumpkins you've come across. We never buy a real one because it's so hot and damp here the poor thing rots within a few days. This year is particularly sparse at Casa de Rohr due to the renovation. I haven't pulled out a single decoration! The pumpkin crazy hasn't hit me yet this year, maybe I am becoming British? I do watch an awful lot of BBC on Netflix. In fact just the other day I referred to my car trunk as the "boot" - who am I?

    1. Thanks so much, sweet school marm! No surprise that I'm not a fan of the whole 50 shades either. I couldn't finish the first book because of the writing, and as I always find that the books are usually better than the films, you can guess the rest.
Had never thought about pumpkins not lasting in your temps, maybe that's where the idea for the pumpkin cuddly toys started.
I did think the whole British thing an hilarious read, though I think we should start taking this seriously. You talk with you SIL a la Downton, you don't do the full monty with vegetables, and now ... your car has a BOOT?!! I really do believe you are morphing into one of us! Perhaps you could do a vlog in the character of your alter ego ... OK, here's a test (and don't think, just answer): which season are we in?
      Hugs, x.

  6. You my friend are a hoot! I love your monochromatic gray ensemble and your beautiful gray hair is the crowning jewel. I think the gray pumpkins are beauties too and will carry you right through Thanksgiving if indeed you don't gouge out their eyes...lol. If the Mr. is playing golf you are definitely entitled to new boots.😉 Happy Tuesday lovely!!!
